I am probably picking up a 3:42 diff this weekend for my truck, which is originally a 4:10 gear truck. My project is all about a daily driver and fuel economy, so the extra gear will help a lot. Just wondering if anyone is interested in the gears. It's a 7.5" rear, completely stock, right out my '80 SR5. If you're looking for torque for a 2wd this would work well. No weird noises that I've heard so far. No idea when I'm pulling it, but an offer might motivate me. As an idea, I'm getting the 3:42's for $75. Make me offers. Shipping's probably gonna suck because it's heavy though.
Double check your axle coz I doubt 4:11's were on any production based rear 7.5" axle... Front IFS maybe... But, if it is a 7.5" I'll trade you for my 3:58 3rd.... Or 3:42 R&P that has been removed...
I looked at the build tag and the code said F292, which means (from what I've read) 7.5" gear, 4.10 ratio. I'll look it up again. If it's something closer to 3:42 I'm not going to bother, it's not worth the difference. I used this page for reference, is there a different page I can get just 2wd ratios? This seems to have both. http://www.brian894x4.com/Gearratiosanddiffs.html Also found: http://www.rsmotorsport.com.au/technical/files/Identifying_Toyota_Hilux.pdf
Those sites are fine to use... F292 is correctly 4:10 not 4:11, although the numbers are very close they react differently to certain transmissions... I have a 3:42 R&P set i'd sell for cheap if you have someone to build it for you... OR trade ya for the 4:10...
Yea you're right, I corrected it above but can't correct the title. No idea why we can't go back and edit after 24 hours... hmm. That's a weird setting. Anyway.... I found a set on CL for $75 ready to go, so got that covered, just was fishing for someone who'd want to grab the 4:10's.
Nice! Is the pinion flange to driveshaft bolts 8 or 10mm? I'm interested if the price is right and it has the correct size pinion flange...
Let me check it out and maybe take a pic or two. If I grab these gears this weekend then we can figure out the details. If it winds up being what you're looking for, make me an offer. Like I said this guy wants $75 for the 3.42's. There's a question, I haven't bought a set before for a Toyota, what do they go for? Is that too much or too little?
Last I 3rd member I bought @ the yard cost me around 50 bucks and that was during half off weekend... Just be sure the one your buying has the correct pinion flange aswell... I believe 85+ 3rd's use 10mm bolts...
Oh yea I'll check. Don't need MORE roadblocks on this truck! It's off an '82 so I'm pretty sure it'll fit, but hey you gotta be sure right?
