Well **** me! So changed the plugs, wires, pcv valve, distributor cap and rotor. poured seafoam down the carb let it set for 15 minutes, started it back up smoked out the neighborhood the state trooper across the street walked over and asked me what the **** i was doing. Then i put the rest of the seafoam in the tank and drove around till the tank was damn near empty. refilled with 93 octane and romped on it pretty good got it hot and went to get it tested. turns out the results are worse than before first time it barely failed but this time its just unbelievable what should i do now? i cant think of anything else. whats the spark plug gap suppose to be? any help/advice would be greatly appreciated at this point.
im not sure about the timing, or the converer, it doesnt smell like sulfur or raw eggs. and yes i will post up the number from the 2nd test give me like 30 minutes
first test: second test basically some all numbers went down except the hydrocarbons on the idle test first test idle was 782 rpms and second was 695 why would my idle be that much of a dffereance after doing tune-up?
im thinking maybe theres some seafoam in the tank still? because i saw when he started it up to pull it in to the bay it smoked a little bit
yes i made sure to do that afterwards whats the plug gap supposed to be? i put them at .38 because thats what the old ones were gapped at
Well looks like you cat aint doing ****z... your co2 should be 14% or higher if its working. You are at 12%. It looks like that seafoam junked your cat, or atleast covered it so its taking longer to warm up. See how the high speed test the cat is still working but on the idle it stinks..Drive the crap outta that thing for a bit and see if you can burn that **** out of the cat. Go do some freeway pulls then let it sit and idle for an hour or so. Also I would have a look at the EGR. Do a vaccum test on the diaphram, and make sure its getting vaccum when you high rev the motor. If the diaphram holds vaccum and its getting vaccum, pull the egr off and make sure the passage way is not plugged with schmeg.
anyway to test the vacuum without a gauge? at this point i really cant afford to be dumping money into the truck seeing as i dont know when my next paycheck is gonna be.
well the easy way is just to hold your finger on it and see if the line gives vacuum. I would love to help ya out, but Im not there to work on the truck for ya, and a lot of the time fixing smog stuff isnt a free fix. usually something has gone to crap and need to be replaced. Some times you are lucky and is just an adjustment, or some thing really easy, but most of the time on these trucks when they fail like that its casue something has stopped working.
thanks bud, i guess i figured these older trucks would be more reliable. guess i forgot about all the emissions ****. damn i hate living in this county. i wish i had a friend in the next county over that doesnt smog.
