By removing the hose, did you have any ill effects on the engine and how it performs?

No negative effects whatsoever. Idles is just as smooth as before. I would assume the car now breath better without all the grease and goo....:D
Disconnect your intake and spray some throttle body cleaner and you'll see what I mean.

also perform an induction cleaner (f/e: seafoam) to clean all the oil and sludge from the intake manifold.

How do you go about using seafoam to clean out the intake, I've seen it used in other ways, but not this way.

I've never tried seafoam in a intake before, so I couldn't say.

But whatever you decided to use, make sure the engine is at normal temperature when you spray the cleaners in there. DO NOT spray into the throttle body with the engine cold.

I did mine by putting it into a spary bottle and spray some in while i have the motor running. spray a little at a time. others say you can dump the whole can in a your full tank of gas but never tried that way.

That hood lift thing is semi new to me, Ive seen it on other cars, but, never on Toyota before. The idea in all reality is a great idea because we all know what happens to a Toyota motor when it overheats ( NOT GOOD ) Thanks for sharing the idea guys . . .

is this where all the ebay oil catch cans are supposed to install? I know for a fact valve cover breather valves are illegal in california but I might be able to get away with one of those.

It's already dropped by 2" spindles front and 3" blocks rear.
I do want it to sit lower tho.

Crank down the bars in the front and remove a spring??

    Yeah.
You can get an oil catch can with a filter on the top.

what is the inlet size for the breather filter? and i noticed the breather filter on the resonator. what is the inlet size of that one, too? and by putting a breather filter on the resonator, does it mess with emission tests or anything?

The ones I used was some breather filters I had laying around. I had to modify them to fit, so I do not know the exact size. Emission? That I have no idea. :p
