it depends on what you want. remember if you got a 22re motor then the biggest cam would be nothing bigger then like a crane 292 but some say 282 would be the biggest it just depends.

i ran a cam on my 22re stock motot with a valve lift of 444 which was a crane cams/TRD stage 2 and had no problems at all the motor screamed like hell and had good response.

if you want look into these sites

the cams i tried and last long would be
schneider, isky(badass cam no joke) , and web
i like LC also but from the past these 2 cam companys i tried they are badass and the rest i tried is okay they are good but not my taste.

I have never done cam work to any car of mine. but Ive always loved the sound of a heavy rough cam especially when its idle and you can really hear how rough it is. I drive my truck every day on the street, im not looking to make it a 1/4 mile dragster but just get more ponies out of her

Those goals wont last too long if your going to try that high of a h.p. expecially if you dont take every precaution, otherwise that motor will be toast...

And LC warrenty is for a very limited time too.

IIRC, a fully built 22RE made close to 600whp. I don't think 250-300 is that hard to accomplish(NOT on a stock motor of course).
