So yea my 22r is giving all sorts of problems. basically when its under load i get a misfire but its like intermitent, not all the time. also when this happens going about 55 the truck will start bucking or jumping, dont know how to explain it. plugs, wires, cap and rotor? or timing i need a ****ing timing light. does vatozone loan those out in their loan a tool program?
i had a explorer that did that, and it was the fuel pump...autozone/checkers etc doesn't rent timing lights..i know cuz i just checked..i picked up a actron on craigs for $15
You would have to hook up a inline fuel pressure gauge, between the pump & your carb with a T connector, & extend the hose with the gauge to where you could see the pressure guage while driving. Verify if the pressure drops, when the mis-fire happens.
i think its getting too much fuel, reminds me of the cbr 600 i had it would start dumping fuel at higher rpms causing the motor to cut out
ITS THE FACKING FUEL FILTER!!! REPLACE IT AND PROBLEM SOLVED!!! my pops would always get that retarded a$$ bucking going 70+ down the fwy... changed the fuel filter and BAM! problem solved.... the fuel filter is too clogged up so that ought to be your prob... if you have elec. fuel pump, idk where it is.. lol.. but if you have a mech. its right on the passenger side of the cylinder head in the front section... check that secondly, but im pretty sure its the filter... it only costs like $3 at autozone.... and it is hidden under the gas cap... some where by the chasis frame lmk what happens and post pics of the "dirty, clogged" up fuel filter mate
yea i also heard it could be the auxillary accelerator pump? anyway im going to replace the plugs, wires cap and rotor, air filter and change the oil also a seafoam treatment. i just bought the truck and failed emissions testing. also wasnt having this bucking problem when i first go it. started to do it after i accidentally dumped the cluth and did the ol one wheel peel
Dropt. I got some answers for ya and some direction as well since i've delt with the 22r's and the idle running poorly problems in the past. I created a thread on another forum discussing this very subject. So here goes. I'll give you a list to check and the order to check it in. this list is based on the 22re so take what i say with a grain of salt since it may or may not apply to you. 1st. check plug wires, rotor, cap, and plugs. Obvious stuff, but better mentioned now to check it off the list. while you're at it check all grounds and connections. battery as well. Timing can be included in this as well. Pulling the plugs will give you some info on how the motor is running IE. fouled plugs, running rich, excessive blow-by, running lean, coolant loss and other things. 2nd. Check fluids, especially the coolant. These little motors will run like crap if the coolant is low. If your coolant is low it could be signs of another problem but lets tackle this one thing at a time. check the oil since the motor will run crappy if it's over filled or low. 3rd. I'm going to refer you to a site that helped me diagnose the electrical stuff that i'm going to mention. Check out 4crawler.com. This guy compiled some seriously good easy to read info on here and it was pivotal when checking the tps and afm on my 22re. So check your tps and afm. Make sure they are within spec. The tps is the bad one that tends to fail and cause problems on the 22re so this may be you culprit. Try pulling any stored codes in your ecu as well. Even if you don't have a CEL code popping up check any ways for good measure. 4th. this one's a little rare but i've heard of it happening twice. check the throttle body itself and make sure the throttle plate opens and closes freely without gaps and binding. 5th check the fuel pressure and delivery system including filter and pump. It's good to replace the filter regardless but as mentioned before it could, although i doubt it is, be your problem. 6th. check for vacuum leaks with a can of carb cleaner. If the motor idles up when hitting a certain area you've found you vacuum leak. 7th. another uncommon one but noted due to it's simplicity of checking is the intake tube. Check it for cracks and gaps. The slightest crack can present itself at the worst time IE. when your traveling at 50 merging on the highway. not fun i know. 8th. Other random things i'll check when stumped. o2 sensor, egr valve sticking open, pvc valve. 9th. i hope this isn't your problem and i doubt it is but i'll mention it for others to refer to. For the 22re and idle issues the last resort at least for me is the ecu. Rare but not out of the question. If all of your sensors and parts are working properly and sending the right messages to the ecu it could be the "brain" is not computing them and sending the right messages back to the motor. Like i said rare, but not impossible. Most of these address idle issues but can also be related to poor running quality like your having now. If i was making an educated guess i would point to the tps being you culprit. So check out 4crawler.com and buy a volt meter. Hope this helped that was a long post!
i had a problem like this about 2 weeks ago..so i bought a new carb. and it stopped...you might try rebuilding yours
i had the same problem with a dirty fuel filter. the thing was nasty clogged but seamed fine untill i was gunning it. also check your plugs.
