The guy in Thailand I ordered a "new" fuel sending unit from on ebay finally responded and said it'll be at least 2 weeks, I'd like to get this out of the shop and into my driveway before that. The shop is going to start getting antsy about my truck taking up space in their bays. I can't find anybody to rebuild my current one, so I guess I'm going to try to test it and see if I can do something about it myself... Anybody know the correct full and empty ohm readings on the sending unit? If mine is doing anything at all, after I get it "unstuck", I should be able to do something with resistors to make it work. I guess. Thanks James
most of the time the resistor doesnt go high or low..it goes open. I would just hook up my ohm meter and slowly move the arm checking for an open dip in the resistance. I would be interested in what your min and max reading is cause i cant find any specs for it.
I have to go pick it up from the shop. It's "stuck" right now, won't move at all. Guess I'll soak it with some penetrant for a while and see how it goes. I can test the "new" one if/when it shows up from Thailand and post those readings, but who knows if they'll be right? Thanks for the reply. James
when ever I cant find a replacement part I go to napa and start goin threw their books they have pictures with spec and you'll be suprised at what still out there for the older toyotas and you can also find out what years the said part was used witch makes the search even easier
and most the time napa will have the part the next day but I'm also a little spoiled because the napa I deal with all the parts guys have been there for years and are hardcore gear heads
Around here, all NAPA ever tells me is "nope", except for parts I can get from Rock Auto. Just tried all local stores just now, just in case...all said "nope" again. Now, I haven't actually gone into the store and tried to ask them to look for specs in their books...my experience in Orange County is when you ask for any access beyond standing in front of the counter they say "nope". I think everybody is afraid customers will sue them...it's ridiculous living here sometimes. Thanks, though! James
i have a haynes manual for 1st and 2nd gen hiluxs. its at the shop. it might say. pick one up and find out. or look on znet.
I now know the correct readings, as given to me by Dan from Tri Starr Radiator in Seneca Falls NY. He can (and did, in one day) rebuild fuel sending units for our trucks and just about anything else. Amazing...this thing was in my hands exactly 24 hours ago in CA, he just called from NY to say he's dropping it off for shipping back and I should have it tomorrow morning! My choice on shipping fast, of course. http://www.tristarrradiator.com/ Oh, he says the sending unit should measure 115 ohms empty and 16 full. Give or take.
