hey guy do you noe if i can run a 22r mechanical fuel pump on my efi motor cause am gunna delete my efi setup
Actually there is. The bolt holes are already tapped all you need is to hog out the hole for the fuel pump arm. James
The only two things I could think of is getting the old elec. fuel pump out so it doesnt restrict flow, and make sure the eccentric is bolted the camshaft. IDK if efis had one or not...
just run an electric external pump..thats what im useing on my 22r swap. pump cost me 20 bucks..works great. for yours i would pull the old pump out and put a hose where the pump was in the sending unit...
well you can run the mechanical fuel pump if you drill out the hole where it goes in the head, and get the eccentric that drives it off another cam. The problem is the mechanical fuel pump only works for a carb engine, it doesnt make enough fuel pressure to run the injectors. The mechanical fuel pump makes between 4-6 psi where the fuel injectors need something like 30psi +- a few psi. you are gonna need a lot of work to switch the efi motor over to a carb.
oh i got my part to swap it to carb is just i wanted an opinion but thats am gunna run sidedrafts so i thought i would ask for some tips but its not gunna be efi no more
As far as I remember all the later EFI heads still had the provision for a mechanical pump, it just has a block off plate over it. You just need the fuel pump, 2 gaskets and spacer and bolt it on. You will also need the eccentric and correct gear to bolt on the front of the cam. If you have a spacer behind the gear now you just need the fuel pump eccentric, if it has just a gear with no spacer then you need a different gear as they actually had 2 different ones.
ya ive never done the efi to carb swap... so i dont know the specifics. i just some of the things you are going to have to change. good luck with it, you should make a thread when you do the swap to help people later.
Why bother with a mechanical pump? There's no need to go through all the work of dropping the tank and removing the stock electric pump (unless there's a problem with it). Just get a good return style regulator to drop the fuel pressure to a suitable level for the side drafts.
what turns on the stock fuel pump..relay or ecu? or relay thats turned on by the ecu? im not at work and cant look it up
