well i took the shifter and cut it at its base where it is skinny and starts to expand. i took my stick and had it cut the same way. then i took the top from the celica and welded onto my base and thats it. its very simple. you can find a chrome one at a junk yard or ebay maybe. my stick shift went straight up no bends or anything. the only thing you will have to worry about is the person who welds it ON!!! i had mone break plenty of times then ended up paying good money to get it done.

I will stick with my short throw LCE shifter. you can always "shorten" your shifter with a hack saw and die set, but thats all you will have.. a shorter shifter. the LCE has a billet spacer that goes in between the tranny and the shifter plate to reduce the throw. If your short shifter doesn't have that spacer its just a shortened shifter that will still require more then a flick of the wrist to operate. The LCE short shifter reduces throw 50%

I am sure you can weld a shifter together, not have problems and have a little less throw. I have seen it, but I wouldn't be caught dead with one in my truck

I am positive mine would still shift quicker and the piece of mind knowing its not going to break off when I need it most is worth the money to me.

and most importantly, I don't think any of the other brands make a short shifter except MAYBE marlin crawler.

i agree with what you say! but for those who are tight on budget this might be a way to try. however like what you said its just a shortened shifter.

. . . and correct me if Im wrong, but, doesnt a shortened shifter throw the weight or balance off for the shifting. I know swapping in or out a different shift knob is very noticable, and I know that some people compromise with a heavier ball with a short shifter ! ? I know I put in a glo knob, it was kewl as hell, but, it was noticably harder to shift, I got a weighted shift knob from TRDracing and its all cured now!

I bought a Lc engineering knob because it was on sale one month for 10 bucks or so .

I realized about 30 seconds after install when I missed second gear that I need a short shifter.
