i want my doors shaved but im not sure which kit to get...they all have different poundage..what does that refer to? my truck is a 93 pickup if that matters..i would assume the pound rating refers to the max weight of the door you're trying to pop. help please.
i would getthe new AVS one...its 2 actuators and not a solenoid...alot of people say that the solenoid type door poppers freeze up a little in winter time with cold weather. but the new design AVS came outwith works in hawaii with temperatures from 60 to 85 degrees....i know its not 0 degrees like up there im just stating some extra facts that would be good to know..good luck and hopefully u make the right choice.
Solenoids are fine ! I run Spal units, been in for 7 years now ,no problems! These have a rubber top boot on them! The 35 lb ( smallest) are fine for import trucks. If you live in a very cold area ,you can use pipe insulation around the units! I just moved & changed the mounting location because I suicided my doors!Still working just fine! Grounding is very import,a good clean points on the door is fine! Make sure you stitch weld your filler plates in slow so you don't get any wrapage! And seal the back side with primer !
i like how excited you are! i'm glad its as simple as i thought it was..and thanks for the stitch welding tip, i'll only ever stitch weld after seeing my buddy's s-10 get warped all to hell lol
Ya the AVS kit is very nice an simple to install I have it on my 91 no poppers tho but it still pushes the door just enough to still get in
lol yea it gets a bit colder up here... so...i've seen a bunch of trucks with extra speakers in the door...and i've considered power windows or locks...would the weight of these mods require a higher power solenoid? or is it just a case by case sort of thing?
I have 4 Runner doors, power everything! no problem! The 65 lb. are used on old cars with very heavy doors! I use solenoids only,no spring loaded pusher!
i had some 15lbs solenoids in my truck for about 7 years they worked great until they went out..im running some 35lb autolocs right now
Never seen smaller than the 35lb's. The rubber boots on the Spals, keeps water & dirt from the moving shaft! Only make I've seen that uses them!
