Ok so the other day I put some 2 inch blocks under the rear of the truck and cranked my torsion bars down a bit. Haven't got it quite level yet, but it's been raining too much to do anything. So the problem is when I let off the gas when I'm cruising the rear of the truck sways to the left, and when I give it gas it sways the other way. Any ideas what could cause this? It definitely doesn't feel safe especially since I dismantled the power steering.

Really? You noticed that after installing blocks? I never noticed something like that happen to me. Maybe it's less noticable with power steering. I bet that feeling is something to use to initiate a drift;)
It could be the stock diff you are feeling. I trust you don't have a lsd.

    1. Alignment.

    or

    2. The blocks are loose/mounted wrong making your axle move front to rear on one side with power applied at the RR wheel. Like dogtracking.

Yeah never heard of anything like this. Lowering should have 0 side effects....other than tire rubbage, but not at that drop. I'm sure the blocks are aluminum so definitely make sure the pins and holes are all how the should be, and make sure things are tight, especially when using a cheap block/u-bolt kit.

Yea that shouldn't be happening. I even have cheap 3 inch blocks with a leaf removed and I don't get any kind of movement like that. Make sure it's tight.

Id say you have somthing loose and not just a bolt like bushings wore out
my experiance has been when you have suspinion problems and you lower it the problem multiplys
so you may of had the sway problem before but didnt notice it and then you lowered it and really brought it to life

I've checked everything, its all tight and set properly in the back. Could it be the torsion bars aren't adjusted the same? I've still got to crank them down a bit anyway because the front end is still a little higher than the rear. A friend told me a aftermarket sway bar might help. Any thoughts on either of these? Suspension work has never been my specialty.

I'm gonna go back tomorrow evening and double check everything. I know the truck is in need of a set of tires, but I don't think it would cause it to be like this. If i suddenly decelerate at interstate speeds it gets pretty scary.

    I'm honestly unsure.
For having a 4-5/3 dropped auto xcab, I'm not sure how much of a difference the longer chassis has on my suspension.

ok I checked it out a bit and I was a little shocked. My rear end is shot, big time. I've been noticing a clunk when I take off or back up, but haven't thought anything of it. i can shake the rear side to side and the passenger side wheel moves hub and all, and kind of clinks. and the 3rd member has lots of play too, I can't believe I just now noticed it. I got a 86 parts truck so I'm gonna do a rear end swap this weekend and let ya'll know how it plays out.

are the rear ends crappy in these trucks? cause i noticed when i was painting my drums that the rear end felt really sloppy... and it clanks when changing gears like you described yours doing...

I have a feeling your previous owners have put alot of load on the trucks. maybe, maybe not.

As for the rear ends, I know for sure the 8" differentials are *almost* bulletproof, and the 7.5" differentials come close, but not always.

Typically our rear ends aren't that bad.

I've hauled alot in mine over the years so I guess this shoulda been expected. Not to mention the truck sat for 2 years, and when i put it back on the road I didnt check the oil in the rear end or anything, i just kept it on the road daily. But now I'm slowly starting to fix up the truck so I can have a nice little daily driver instead of a faded work truck.

check ur bushings....cuz bushings over time take memory of how its sits so wen the bushing moves wen u drop it the bushing will move and have play in it...seen it happen b4..also rear ends that are ****ty suck to...
