Are the rods supposed to be able to move side to side slightly along the crank like this? on a 22re

Yes, around .006/.010 is normal, check the rod side clearance specs to be sure as I don't have the specs here in front of me.

this is a pic I found online and then used paint on

    not my engine.........

The motor in my 4runner which has 9,000 miles on it developed a loud knock a month ago so I parked it. Just got the motor out and I'm trying to figure out what's wrong

High lift is more apt to cause problems on the spring side not in the port area, heat fatigue, lots of wear in guide allowing valve to wobble, or misalignment between valve when seated and the guide itself could cause failure. Whatever the case, it sucks:cry:

Those are offset valves, they use them in performance applications for piston dome clearance. :D

ya number 4 intake valve seat dropped down.....not sure why..........the entire long block has less than 10,000 miles on it along with everything else from the tranny forward including alt, starter, injectors, etc. The only "rebuilt" parts are the crank and block. The motor has never seen higher than 5k rpm too. At least its' warrantied but I still have to fork over the dough to ship it back, all my fluids, etc. Plus the fact that it's my daily driver.

Did they rebuild your original engine or send you one already done? Is it an OEM head?
