I just finished replacing the head gaskit on 22r very simple no major problems other then breaking off one of the thermo switches in the intake got it running no leakes was all happy untill I drove it
no power so I was thinking I had the valves adjusted to tight but the more I played with it the more it seemed that the dis wasnt advancing so I swapped vac lines that madde it worse
    so 2 questions

1 dose anyone know of a web site that has the vacum line digrame for a 88 22r so I can make sure I got them all back where they belong

2 do you set the timing with the vacume line unhooked from the distributer on these engines

Id like to look at these 2 possibiltys before I go after the valves agine

Yes, remove the line to the distributor when you set the timing.

    I'v developed a new problem
so here's where I'm at last weekend I replaced the head gasket and I got it all back together no problem but when I removen the intake I broke off #2 temp swtich. got a new one well in the research for that I found out that it controls the fast idle. yea that explanes why I couldnt get it to kick down so I can unwire my carb so it works right now.
ok running like a champ drove it the std 84 miles back and forth to work for 4 days
then I get off the freeway and it wont idle (no spittin n sputtring just dies like its shut off) so I get it home and start playing around with it I check for vacum leakes I went through and put a wreanch to all intake and carb bolts so to get it to stay running I've unhooked the vacume line to the fast idle diaphragm and set the idle screw to hold the throttle open a little more
    so heres my question
does #1 temp switch controls idle
is there a fuse for the idle if so where
are vacum egr valve as tempermentle as a electronic one because I rodded out my tube an de coked the part of the valve that bolts to the head
so throw this dog a bone I need some ideas

sounds like your idle cut solinoid is F'n up.

its the electrical connection on the carb to a AA battery looking thing on the top near choke

My battery is not held down at all. Sometimes if it moves to far to the left it stretches the ground and it makes it run exactly like that. Sputtering and popping, won't go over a few miles a hour and is just missing all over the place. Are your grounds secure? For me I just get out shove the battery back into place and it runs fine. Only reason I say this is because mine happens out of the blue, sounds like your prob. off the freeway and it started out of no where.

no my battery is secure I've lost a battery into the fan before and it makes a mess (to say the least) so that was one of the first fixes when I bought it

I wasnt loosing power it just wouldnt idle but I got it fixed

and with the magic of copy past here's how I fixed it:clapping:

well after testing all electrical going to and from the carb with nothing showing up I got pissed and pulled the carb played with the linkage and got the fast idle set so it worked better then before but still couldnt get it to idle unless it was racing
so I started to think if I have a vacum leak it has to be in a hose so I figured if I start pulling hoses it make it run worse so 1 by 1 I started to pull hoses. well I pulled one and it dropped in rpm's hmmmm..... IT went to the outer diphgram of the distributer so I adjusted the idle down,Hey! I've got some headway well I pulled the cap off and my vacume advance is hanging up Ive cleaned all the crap out of the distributer and put it back together with lots of dyelectric grease and it seems to work fine

but now I'M PISSED because I kind of had my mind made up to by some side draft webers and some other get up and go type parts to fix my problems so now I guess I'll just have to go back to plan A and paint my truck
