...between a 1jzte and a 7mgte? also, can you make a front sump 1jz rear sump? is all it takes is changing the oil pan? i'm asking because i'm thinking about just putting a 1jz into the 4runner once i get the cash together. the 4runner will sit until i can get the 1jz anyways, but it will be well worth it.
your better off with a 5vze swap...... the diff between a 1jz and 7mgte? google each motor they are completely different series and the 1jz was never offered in the us.
3.4 out a tacoma or 4runner it bolts in, has been done lots of times, provides low end power (what you want for a typical 4wd), is not 10ft long like a I6 motor
the 4runner is getting dropped onto a 2wd pickup frame. it's not gonna be a 4wd. am i still better off with that swap?
i think unless if you have a 4wd with a bodylift, that it would be better to run a v motor. you have to cut so much stuff to fit in the straight 6. it's a pain in the butt. lol

Ok theres a lot of good info but some may be over exaggerated. The 1jz engine was offered in JDM form only and never introduced in the USDM form as previosly mentioned. The 1jz motor is a very stout motor like the 2jz but with a little less torque and weight (but more then enough for what you are doing) the front sump oil pan motors in the 1jz and 2jz can be converted to a rear sump but cost 400-500 dollars and its that price no matter where you go unfortunately. The 1jz can easily be found in a rear sump/oil pan form with no problem and would save you time and money in the long run. In my truck I installed a 2jz with fron sump and regret having the front sump. If I could do it again I would always go rear sump to avoid issues. I had to move the engine far forward and cut up the front of my truck just to clear the steering linkages, but, this can easily all be avoided by having a rear sump motor. The 7m-gte will fit in just as well being its a rear sump motor. they are great motors but suffer there weak points having blown head gasket issues. In most cases a metal head gasket will fix this but still is old design. The 1UZ is a great motor, very light, good power, and very low cost. its a shorter motor making mounting the engine more simple leaving room.
so far the 1uz sounds like the best bet and less money from what you guys are saying right? what vehicles were equipped with the 1uz? and how much am i looking at to get that motor, transmission, ecu and everything needed to drop it into my 4runner? also, how much of a pain is it to put that all into a 1992 4runner on a 93 2wd pickup frame?
pretty much you'd do the swap on the 2wd frame. LS400, GS400, SC400, carry the 1UZ. the earlier the Lexus, the easier the swap. a 1992 LS400 engine gets most people started pretty well.
yep i'll do the swap on the 2wd frame. i've looked at some of the sites like lextreme and uzswap.com. i'm a lil confused and have some questions though. the tailshaft from a 2wd auto tranny from the back of a 3vz can replace the tailshaft from the 1uz tranny right? a341 or something like that? also, what about the ecu for the tranny and motor? how hard are they to wire? also, does it matter what sump the motor has putting it into a 2wd? and is there anybody that makes motor mounts to drop it straight into a 2wd pickup frame here in the us?
the exhaust manifolds from the sc400 are the best for the swap. my motor is from a ls400 and they stick way too far out... from what i've read, the tailshafts swap, and i've also compared them side by side, seems they should swap. (i really hope cuz i need the i.r.s. rear on my 86 and the slip on my 73 ) the trans ecu is in the motor ecu, so just get the motor ecu and your covered. i'd suggest a rear sump motor, but you'll probably still need to notch the small front sump a bit.. not sure on the motor mounts, i just fabbed mine. was very easy.
i read that the motor and tranny have their own ecus on some of them, but not sure i got a lil confused at everything for a while and kinda shut down. lol. what vehicles had the rear sump?
The cost for the 1UZ at www.venus-auto.com is 650 for a complete engine and transmission. You should check out our R&D program on our site, might be worth checking into as it may save you a lot of time, money, and headaches.
that's not bad for the engine and tranny. how much is the ecu and wiring harness? is the tailshaft on the tranny already swapped to work in a pickup/2wd 4runner?
The harness and the ecu come with the motor ( from venus-auto anyways). You'll either need to wire it yourself or send it out to have it done. the tailshaft is a 3 bolt to 3 bolt flange. you will have to have a custom driveshaft made which is really easy and straight forward. after the motor and trans is mounted just measure from the transmission flange to the rear end flange and give them that dimension with the new ends and the driveshaft shop will do the rest.
