Hey whats up? So Ive been thinking about a 2wd 89-95 4Runner lately and I was just wondering what you have to do to lower those bad boys. Is the suspension setup in the 4Runners the same as our trucks or are they a link setup? Thanks
He's right. The fronts are torsion bars and are the same setup as the pickup except that the upper and lower control arms are mounted lower on the frame to create more lift. Also the torsion bar connects to the upper A arm (I believe). The rear setup is a 4 link with a panhard bar and coils.
So how bad do you think it would be to lower it? If I get one I might bag it, but just for now a drop.
crank down the torsions and cut the springs in the back. But if you're gonna bag it then the easiest thing to do then would be do find a standard cab pickup and just use the frame and put the 4runner body on it. Or build a frame yourself.
ya the torsion bars are on the upper control arms. the 2wd 4runners still have all the 4wd suspension parts so im not sure how low you could go
O.k. now I'm interested to know. Is this the most common way to bag a 4runner? To use a standard cab frame? Do all the body mounts line up?

basicaly yes. but it involves alot of work! I had to cut the floor out from the front seats all the way back. and you will have to build the back 6 body mounts. i think you can swap 2 or 4 off the 4wd frame to the 2wd frame but if i remember right 2 of them hang to low so you have to build them. click that link and mines the 3rd down.
Was the cutting required due to your C-notch? Also what mods have been down to the 2wd frame? is it Z'ed?
So I went up and got the 4Runner last weekend, paid 1900 for it. Its in awesome shape, just needs exhaust and a new interior door handle for the driver side. I will get some pictures up here sometime soon. Do you think I can at least get a few inches out of it? I might bag it later on down the road, but for now I just have my bagged truck, not to mention Im trying to get my Astro back on the road.
yes for the notch and the tires and the rear frame section on the trucks frame kicks up more in the back than the 4runner frame (4runners frames are more flat) so i had to cut it out for that too. the frame is Zed and it has a 1.75'' SFBD. ya you would just loosen the toursion bars in the front and cut the coils in the back. Im not sure how low you could go but im sure you could get 2'' or more out of it
Thats right about what I want for a drop, the torsions are on the top control arms rather then the bottom, is that gonna effect anything or will it sill drop the same? Sorry about all the questions, just trying to get everything straight before I start taking stuff apart, lol.
Wow thats a clean Runner You can always losen the torsion bars and go for a test drive to see what it does. Just make you keep track of how many turns you turned so can get it back to the stock height if its not right for your liking....
that is clean! i wish my 89 was that clean..it wouldnt be all torn up right now..lol Your in Idaho..Spray some penetrating oil on the threads for the torsions just to break any rust loose..Mine were rusted so bad i thought they were going to break when i cranked 'em up.
