From what ive heard 75s and up are disc breaks? is this true, can I just swap that crap over to my A arms and have front disc and not drum which I cant find parts for, I can find parts for the rear drums.

Can someone get me pictures of it the a arms and spindle, I might just need the spindle(or knucle), disc, caliper and pads?? right

Edit: also car part is listing 75-82 knuckles the same. Is that true? if so I can get those from my local junkyard, I think ill get measurments and go tomorrow... I dont think 82s have coil springs but the way it mounts might still be the same, I could see it working. all my cars have been 4wheel disc till now, im anti drum.

    Thanks in advance.

i know for sure that the 75-78 is discs and you just swap the whole spindle with calipers and brakes as one unit. dont even have to take it apart, just pop the balljoints and tie rod off and disconnect the brake line. id suggest an 81ish master cyl and booster too since its a smaller booster diameter and the master is setup for discs and drums. you can always put a universal adjustable rear pressure regulator for when you do rear discs. a good idea too if it sits nose down since atleast on my 78 the backs lock up too quickly.

the 79-82 stuff is very similar. same rotor i know for sure. i do know the steering is on the front side instead of the rear. but swap them side to side and it will face backwards for our trucks. good luck and post pictures as you do it.

Ok, thanks, I will be looking into the earlie 80s stuff first because its at my local junkyard, if i go with 75-78 ill have to get it shiped from somewhere. I was planning on getting new pads, rotors, calipers, so all I need is the spindle and bolts if they have them.

I just have drum in the front with 4 wheel cylinders and the majority leak and they are like 20-30 bucks a piece online, cant find any one local that caries them, and the shoes are all worn out, thats more money, I figure if im spending money I might as well go disc, plus im replacing all the ball joints so I want to it all at one time, even if it is non vented, its a light truck not like my 300zx which is 3000lbs and has over 200hp, this is a 100hp truck, if that.

If any one has the 75-78 spindles they would sell let me know.

There's a 78' at my local PICK n PULL. Already took it's steering wheel and visors. If they are open tomorrow (doubt it) I'll be stopping by just to see what new vehicles they have. Otherwise, on Saturday for sure.

I've never bought spindles from any of the yards before so I haven't a clue what they would cost. I'll also have to check in what sort of condition they are in. If I can take some photos, I'll post them.

Just PM me if you're interested.

i read an article from minitruckin that was on a 78. it had disk brakes from a 92 or 93. i don't know if it was a direct swap or if there was any modifications needed though

from a quick glance i wouldn't doubt that the 79-83 spindles would bolt up. the 84-95 would definately require modifications. both ball joints point down on the trucks up to 83, and in 84 and newer one faces up, and one faces down.

I will definately try the earlie 80s stuff, I don't want to pay 85 bucks a spindle for 78 stuff... From my local junkyard I can probably get all I need for 85 bucks, and that includes everything.

I dont see why the 81 wouldnt work, my only concern is the caliper is almost where the steering arm goes, maybe with some modifications to that, like bend it down then out and kind of up at the same time to go around it, it looks like the 73 steering arm will bolt up to the 81 knuckle, but no way to know without trying it, with me taking some rough measurements it looked do'able.

This will be put on hold trying to save a 81 toyota starlet from the junkyard so gotta come up with 500 bucks.
