anyone have any experience with this combination on a 22R? good? bad? what did you think? what intake did you have and what size carb did you run?
I had good results with the an edelbrock 500cfm on my Isuzu... Wished they mad a 390cfm tho, that would be perfect for a mildly built 4 banger. I bought the metering kit and smaller jets and got working nice and then I made the switch to dual sidedrafts. Never looked back then after! Love the gurrrgling sound of properly tuned Mikuni's!
down here we had a 22r with a stock manifold ported and polished and a holley 4brl cARB SITTING ON TOP, he runs the truck with nitrous and it beat a z06 corvette at the drags. lol!!the guy said the power and get up and go is way better than a weber setup, every since then ive been wanting to try.
yea...... starting to keep an eye out for dual setup or offy and holley setup...... never heard anything from someone that tried the other setup......... sidedrafts tho seem to be the prime setup tho.... kinda regret letting go the set i had but at the time, i just wanted my truck to go. now, im just at the point where i want more. i know my stock carb is severely hindering my flow and output of the motor. wont flow worth a hell after the 4k point.
ive got a offy dual plane and a weber 32/36 in my wheeler. with a blown headgasket i could power brake with 33s, awesome torque. ive got 35's now and it will still do it, but i like these tires
the downddraft carb setup is for more torque application, but the sidedrafts are for more horsepower or top end, in my opinion the sidedraft is more of a better setup if you know how to tune them. but since gas is expensive here i bought the lcengineering stock modified card.
one tire fire! i kinda thought the same thing. either way i still think any choice will be a vast improvement over stock. like i mentioned i think the stock carb pretty much falls short after ~4000rpm's anything that will flow more cfm will help....... i already have a good flowing head, exhaust is opened up but i know i need to open up the front doors now
since your truck is lifted you should go the 38/38 carb, i know the guys down here with lifted trucks say they save more gas using the 38/38 rather than the 32/36 because with the 32/36 they have to open it up more to get the truck starting to roll from a stop.
This is my experiance with these parts and setups, #1 offy is the best intake made nothing better ever, although, having the stock intake ported ,not polished, by an experianced head shop would be , close nowwith the technical part, your air fuel set up, more air the better if your engine and exhaust can handle it. It all comes down to what is inside that will make your money work for you, the easiest way to gauge your engine/air fuel would be LC's website, duel sidedrafts are the **** if your motor can use all the air and fuel, I had a friend that had a holley 650 on his 22r and it used it all, but he also had 5 g's in the long block, the biggest carb for a mild motor, ie cam, valves, headers, muffler, ingnition would be a jetted 500 2 barrel, or a 38 weber, the best for your motor as you've discribed in your previous psts would be a holley 500 with a jet adjust block, the purple spacer we've all seen, the offy would be a little boost butfor the money you could probly have yours ported for half the cost. Any more ?'s let me Know.
only time i ever have trouble pulling away from stops with a 32/36 is when there is a chain and a K5 blazer attached to my truck, and thats with 35's and 4.10's at the very end of this 9min vid (last 30 sec or so) there is video of me towing the K5 on the hwy at speed or better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0kKrME8eb8
yea..... my main decision cut is between side drafts or going offy with a 500 2bl / 650 4bl holley. obvious difference is gonna be the cost.... i guess it'll be whatever i find first.
