Hey, found the site when i was browseing the web during my purchasing period of my 88 2wd pickup. Its a little rusty on the outside but the frame and cab are solid. its a 22r, 4 speed, 3.08s. has a bench seat and no options lol. I absolutely love it. my friends think i'm a little anyways i wont be lame, so heres some pics to entertain you. baller sun shade lol. and 4wd grill and yes i wheel my 4wd HARD
Looks Great im pretty sure that rust will buff out if not we got bondo lol good luck im sure it will look great Nice 4X btw
The plan for the 2wd is to lower it slightly, and not go to crazy with it as it will be my daily driver wich i want to get good gas mialage with and not worry about anything. I do plan to swap a w58, and a 4:10 thrid out of one of my parts trucks. Oh and spend as little money as possible on it, so far i've spent $275 on it. $250 for the truck and $5 for the passenger side headlight bezzle on the 4wd grill (had the middle and other bezel) and 20 bucks for an oil filter air filter(madddd dirty) and oil. here are some more pics of the 4wd (this should keep you busy haha)
Finally, a new guy that understands we like pics!! Nice trucks man, looks like you have the means to make the 2wd very cool.
that is amazing how those springs broke you have some F'd up salt/rust happening up there. but ya, love the wheeler, and the 2wd has potential, would love to see that rusty fender slammed so hard you can see tucked wheel through the rust. but im nutty like that welcome
i've seen 4x springs break before, it was from major axle wrap, nothing wrong with the condition of the spring eather it was a cali truck no rust.
Thanks, guys. I'm a little nutty like you guys too. haha. i'm hoping they will let the rusty fenders slip buy on a saftey (pontential hazard due to cutting) if not bolt on 4wd fenders to make it pass get it home and switch em back haha. and i think eventually i will buy the djm kit with 3" lca's and blocks to get it lower it. and i'm gonna keep the 14" steelies. fyi springs never really rust up here. they get a little on the surface but never acutally rot and cause breakage. they were just old.
Being very budget minded myself, I just had to point out that this isn't the budget friendly way to lower your truck. You should do a ball joint flip and crank down the torsions. The blocks are good for the rear but you also might want to try out pulling the middle leaves from your springs. Then trim your bumpstops and put some stiffer shocks on it and call it good. That's the budget method.
how harsh will the ride be if I lower it with a bj flip cranking down the torsion bars and removing the middle leaf? how low will i be? sorry newb questions haha.
Well, what we are talking about is really three different processes. First, the ball joint flip. It has no adverse effects and gives you 3/4" of drop while maintaining a factory ride (so get to flippin!). Removing the middle leaf and cranking down the torsions, well these are both going to soften up the ride quite a bit, but this method is also hundreds of dollars softer on the wallet. Also if you decide you don't like it, you can always put your springs back together and crank the torsions back up. This method should net you about 3" total drop in the front. Maybe a little less. The key to having it ride nice is going to be in the trimming of the bumpstops. Search the forum a bit as these topics have been covered in detail (balljoint flip/cranked torsions/pulling middle leafs).
i agree. if you trim them right you wont bottom out on the inners. but i also advise a 195/65 or 195/70 tire in place of the 75. itll look better and help with clearance. so will a hammer onto the pinch weld inside the inner. hammer everything that rubs or gets in the way, i got about 2-3" clearance doing mine...but i also went crazy swingin. haha. anyways, if you do those methods but have a nice stiff shock and a short travel because of the trimmed bumpstops youll have a good ride. my 789 has 7ish" drop up front just from the springs and with new stock shocks and 65s it rides great. out back is a pulled leaf and big lowering block. so, get to it...none of it is irreversible.
