ok, so while driving (beating on) on my truck earlier today I somehow managed to get the shifter stuck over to the right. My 1st gear now sits where my 3rd would normally be. The truck still shifts in and out of gears relatively smooth, but it makes some wicked noises with the motor is on.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? and does anyone in cali have a 2wd 5 speed transmission they could part with?

Holy crap. That's crazy. I can't believe it still shifts.

I was about 1/4 mile away from home when it happened. I drove it home and it actually accelerated and shifted normal except the horrible noises under me.

I assume you have bent and broke part(s) where the shifter goes into the trans.. I recomend starting there to try and diagnose.
