Is there a light that turns on when your altternator goes out??? When I turn my truck to the on position, I don't see any battery light. My alternator is not working but I don't see any dash lights to warn me that the battery isn't charging? All the lights shut off when I start the truck. I hope someone understands what I'm trying to explain.
im not sure about the third gens, but i dont think there really is..or atleast it doesnt work right..
Silly question & you may have checked it already. Is the indicator bulb good ? The light should light up when you turn to the on position and it should go off when you actually start the truck and it is running. If your truck battery isnt receiving a charge the dummy light will turn on indicating a fault. If the fusing is good I would check the bulb. Did you have your alternator checked ? I know you plan on upgrading but, it may only need a brush set or has become extremly dirty inside from oils / dirt / etc., most likely itsa a bulb or the brushes are gone ! L o w N l o u d
If your battery is not keeping a charge & the alternator is going bad then the parking brake light may/should be on. Ive got a 91 model truck & when my alternator was going out the parking brake light stayed on even when the parking brake wasnt engaged. I found out later that its a indicator to let you know that the alternator is not charging!! Hope this helps...Donny
Yes, I am planning to do the upgrade as soon as I gather all my parts(and get a day off). I just wanted to make sure that everything is properly working. It dawned on me the other day that if my alt is not charging, why is there no dummy light on? I only figured out that my alt wasn't charging when my HID lights started flickering. I should check the bulb but damn that speedo cable is a b!tch to put back. Heres what comes on when I turn the ignition to the on position. Should there be a battery light? Can someone take a pic of theirs?
its been standard on all yotas since at least 1970 that the brake and charge light will be on if the alt is bad. it kinda looks like there is another dummy light inbetween the brake and oil
I guess I need to check if the bulb is out. My brake light does shut off when I release it. If I cant figure this out, maybe I'll just get me a aftermarket volt gauge. If anyone has a pic of the dash lights when the ignition is in the on position, I would apreciate it.
w o w . . . Wow, totally didnt know about the brake light as well, but, I looked it up, and sure enough, you are both correct, seems a bulb is out from where I sit. Great Info guys totally kewl ! L o w N l o u d
I got a flashlight and saw the battery/charge light to the right of the brake light. To the left is seat belt. The one next to the oil light says rear anti lock. To the far right there is a cruise light and next to the H on the temp is 4x4. Hmmmm.... I wonder if my gauge cluster had been changed before?????
