I'm with him. Roll them fenders. I can do it for you at the show. I keep my fender bat next to my seat. It's a good "crazy hobo window washer removal tool"
rolling wont help much cause the wheels actually extend out past the fenders nearly an inch.. the offset on the wheels is too low....I am hoping to get some new wheels and be able to go lower.
im all for getting wheels that tuck to start with. but an inch is doable. ive flared more than that before. my 92 had about a 2" bedside flare, and about 3" to the fenders. my 78 is probably about the same up front. havent had to do the rear...yet. lol.
for sure. that body style its not too tough. the older ones need retarded offset to tuck and clear. like, i had to run +40 on 7" wide wheels. lol. ill never tuck anything with a lip.
well until i spend the time to get/make blocks I just pulled the heavy duty lower leaf out to lower it a bit.... still not happy but it will do until I get new wheels.
did you have the normal 3 leaf pack of was there a 4th? i usually run the factory overload and the main full length. i take the middle out and whatever extras are there. i can post a picture of my setup if youd like.
please do post pictures... it was a 3 leaf setup. I took out the one huge bottom one...but I am thinking about tearing it back down and taking out the middle and only using the top and big overload spring.
all i did was take out the over load spring and put in blocks and im right at the top of the tire im thinkin about puttin another hole in the shackle to try and level it out
yeah Im debating on whether or not I want to go back and put blocks in and drop it more... but I think Ill wait till I get some different wheels.
im uploading things to photobucket now. if its not super slow, ill get it posted in a few. otherwise later tonight. but id go with the middle gone.
okay. here are some pictures of my underside setup. there are more in the mork thread. lol. i love the name i gave it. i need a notch. maybe. then ill hit the bedfloor and the tubs. hah.
dont worry, the blocks and leafs all share a common grade 8 center pin. and yes, i realize i dented the frame from the u bolts. maybe im static'd too far.
Everthing I have ever read, says do not stack blocks. I've even seen threads where arguments have got started over the subject. I was wondering why you choose to stack them?? And have you had any negative effect?? And how many miles have you driven like this?? *************************Disclaimer************************ ( This is curiousity, not trying to start anything, looking for information, I have no opinion on the subject, I have no experience w/ stacked blocks, so I can't say yes or no, This is purely conversatioal and just a question, not argueable )
i would never just stack blocks. those both started as 4" tall blocks. because djm u bolts suck, and because the pads on my leaf perches are a hair narrower than the block, they dug in and snapped the top half of each side off. on both sets. i will never again buy a djm lowering block. this was initially a quick fix to not have to buy a 3rd set. the way these are cast, it has the outer walls, with one center bar going side to side in the middle. and in the center of the block, about 2" up is a flat plate area. so, i cut the tops off down to the flat area. then drilled out the center of each block, and when i had to put new leaf pins in, i decided the only way i would trust things not to move again would be to use a grade 8 nut and bolt through both blocks and the leaf pack. that and i had a 4wd shop make me new grade 8 u bolts, in a slightly thicker bar, to the size i needed. since then ive put about 10-12k miles on it. and i drive it pretty hard. i was under it a few times a day for a week checking it when i first did it. i didnt see any problems. and to get the taper i needed back since they were now flat 2-1/4" blocks, i taper cut the bottom of one set to give me a good driveline angle. i sorta guessed but it came out good. no bad driveline problems. ive had the truck well over 100 mph and it doesnt hum. so, take this as more of my story of having to rebuilt the whole system and not as a "he did it, so ill be fine". you seem smart, but i dont want to condone stacking blocks. edit: and i know it seems like i had way too much u bolt made, but i wanted a little extra in case i went lower and had to put in a shim. and yes, both front inner corners have been bent crooked since. so, if they ever come off...its with a cutoff wheel. $50 u bolts...lol.
Did some hood work with some spare sheetmetal I had laying around in the shop... Its only in primer right now, but I will be repainting the whole truck within a week hopefully...will be keeping a rat roddish style, satin white with satin black hood. Centerline Rims probably painted to match. (white lip, rivets, and wholes, black face) will update when more work gets done
they are a little square...but will look good when I get a nice rolled metal finish on the leading edge instead of just the sheet metal edge...and once they are painted and dissappear in a satin black hood. Pictures will come.
