thinking about trying a 4:10 gear ratio in the pickup. anyone else running that combo with the 5 speed and seemingly smaller wheels?

what kind of speed/rpm are you guys running on the highway........ what rpm are you guys runnin @ 65mph?

I fluctuate between 3000-3500 giving it small bursts once in awhile to help cool down the chambers... My speedo says 72 @ 3300 rpm but, I'm not sure if that's accurate. I do stay with the flow of the faster drivers so it may be close...

You will love the acceleration tho! And who cares about gas mileage when your having fun!

ive got 4:38's in the hilux now, gonna swap to a 4:10 for better gas miliage.

the accel with these lower gears is pretty awesome, but the downside is not so comfy at higher speeds.

with the 4:38's i still got around 25mpg up to about 70mph, then the milage dropped off quite a bit.

    no tach for refrence sorry.

I know its not what you're looking for but I got a 4speed w/ 390's it runs 3300 rpm at 60 mph in 4th obviously. I can pin the speedo straight down like what would be I guess 140 mph at 5500. The speedo is off 30 mph.

very nice fellas....... i can find a decent 4:10 diff around here for about 50 bucks so i think it'll be worth a try. the only thing is (at this point) i will lose is my locker (welded).... untill i get the time to lock it up again.

also, a thing i forgot to ask is what tire combo you guys are running. im runnin a 205/50/16 series tire out back with the 5 speed.

my 79 has the 4.10 with a 20r and the 3 speed auto.

71mph tops!!!!! assuming there isn't a head wind, and i'm on perfectly flat land.

maybe something is wrong with it...

not sure yet. i had found a r-154 for $30. but if i could find a celica tranny i'd be happy.

my cousins geo would at least run 80 without a fight :( . even with 3 fat guys in it.

im not aware of a way to adapt the R-154 to a 20/22R engine. i know it fits the M series. so if you have a 4 cyl still the best you can get is the W58. the W56 is still an improvement for most of the trucks in your list there.

He could use the 22RET bellhousing but I think he would have to make a spacer since the R154 has a longer input shaft.

welcome to the site tim :waytogo:

there is no dedicated sections to 2wd or 4wd...... just so happens that the site seems more 2wd oriented.

either way, post your questions or related topics in the generation your truck applies to and you WILL still get an answer. :waytogo:

there are pleanty of people here to help you out in any way possible. im a 4x guy myself...... always had been till a year or so ago and now i got a 4x again so feel free to ask away man. :waytogo:
