Guys, I'm looking for a set of wheels that are really really cheap. All I want to do is get them to tuck. I have the stuff to drop it, but the guy that had it before me had some 0 offset wheels that definitely won't tuck. I'd like to stay with a 16" wheel, because that's just more my style... I got a set off a protege5. They are the right bolt pattern and offset, but they won't clear the centers (the spindle bolt in the front, and the tube looking thing on the drum cover on the back). Anybody have any suggestions concerning wheels? I thought about just finding stock steelies until I can track down some wheels, but I need the center hole on the wheels to be 2 3/4" diameter or larger.

    TIA,
    -Nick

    a lil help . . .

Try the link I included below for wheel measurements to help aid you in deciding what rims to buy accordinging to your specs! Tuner wheels work for alot of guys and some people use wheel spacers on the to aid in backspacing if its to deep, overall, accurate measurements and calling, questioning wheel suppliers is the key to getting kewl rims that fit your ride. You can also question members directly if you like their rims and see what they have. Furthermore, you can search in these threads by using the ( search ) tool and using keywords for your search. Some people shop in junkyards for ( temporary wheels ) ! For NEW wheels , try EBAY for a quicker/cheaper set-up ! Alot of way kewl wheels out there !

I know what size/offset I need. The problem is that most wheel sites don't put the specs on the diameter of the center hole... That's what I need to know. Thanks for that page though, it is a good link for wheel info.

Has anyone else had the problem I'm having?

If I were to use spacers, the front would have to be almost 3 inches thick to clear that stupid cap that goes over the spindle nut. The back would have to be about an inch thick. I'd rather have a set of wheels with a center bore between 2 3/4 and 3 inches in diameter. But, I need some ideas about some wheels that you guys already have that fit. Like I said, I'd prefer 16x6 wheels with an offset of around +35-+42. Anybody have some ideas. Like I said, if anyone has a spare set of steel wheels, I would even be happy to take those off your hands...

    Nick

Darrin87, I appreciate those specs, I think they are pretty close to the specs on my '93. I don't know what axle I have, but I have a 22RE w/ a 5-speed. I don't know if there was a specific rearend that came with that setup or not. Perhaps you can tell me what axle I have in the rear (7.5" or 8"?)

probably, they have tires on them and I don't think they're any good. Where do you live?

I live in North Tennessee. If I got them from you, I would probably roadtrip to come get them, since your profile says you live outside of Atlanta. I drive an '03 Corolla that gets 40 mpg. :)

But, I guess that really depends on what you want for them...

i've had a similar situation when trying to fit tahoe wheels on my old mazda mini. i just took my wheels to a machine shop and they put them on a lathe or somethin after measuring the hub diameter of course and cut the centers out then i just made sure the wheels were still balanced correctly at a tire shop and they fit like a champ! not sure though how the wheels you have would look though cause the tahoe wheels as you may recall have a center cap that hides the lugs/hub. i personally have 95 cobra wheels on my truck.

I thought about doing that, but the wheels I have would have to have a substantial amount of material cut out. I'm just not sure how structurally stable the wheels would be if I did that.

as long as there is still material for the lug to seat on it should be fine. all your doing is making them lugcentric rather than hubcentric. a 5x4.5 pattern is going to be a 5x4.5 pattern regardless, and the material left will be the same if you buy wheels the fit from a supplier and having some machined, it really makes no difference.

actually, there won't be nearly as much material left... I'll take a picture to show you what I mean, but I'm out of town right now.

how would one wheel have more than another, except for maybe thickness of the mounting area. if you machine it to the hubs size, then it will have the same....

thats like saying a 4 inch hole isnt always a 4 inch hole? atleast in my eyes. maybe im thinking of it wrong.

These are the wheels I've got... I don't know how they'll look with a lot of excess cut from the center.

This is not my wheel, since I'm not at home, I can't get a picture of my wheel. But, the back of this one looks a lot like it.

If I cut out the inside, I lose the structural wall that makes the hollow parts a 5-sided box, which I'm afraid will allow the wheel to flex around the lug-nuts ultimately making them crack. Does that help?

The part I have to cut, is a structural portion of the center of the wheel, it's not just about losing material... it's about losing important structural material.

that looks a lot like the escalade wheels people use, and machine regularly. I wouldn't worry about it honestly. As long as the lugs have somewhere to seat firmly, I don't see the worry. Just don't take out more than you absolutely have to. A machine shop can do it precisely.
