so i ordered the tubing for the back half yesterday! i called my work at 2pm to see if it had arrived, and it did. so around 4 i left to go work and start fabbing the back half. got to the gas station and realized i had forgotton my template and measurements. so i go to start the 79 to go back home and she turned over really slow, but started. drove home, ran in the house to get my template then ran back out....... truck was dead. so now i gotta replace the alternator on the 79, and hopefully fab up the backhalf on tuesday.
started on the back half today. besides a few welds and fish plates she's almost done. all in less time then it would have taken to clean up the back of the original frame. here is my $50 back half.
ok!!! now your somebody as far as the marrage goes i dont know cuz now your going to hav chics all over your ass just to get to that hilux baby !!!! woooo hoooo u da man now !!!!
dang bernie, thats a sweet looking back half. Not only do you get all the deals on toyotas, you also got the time, knowledge and skills to make them in to sick trucks. It looks like about a 6-7" notch? As far as the center brace, is their any particular reason you made it angled down like that? and i know probably not but i have to ask, is it equal to the rear diff going down like that?
thanks! it's notched to clear a 22" rim w/lowpro tires. the crossmember being angled started as wanting to just be a little different. i had a piece with a 18 degree angle already cut. since i'm going to put a fuel tank from an 86 in the back, i dropped the crossmember enough so the tank will never get the chance to touch the ground. out of the 20' piece of tubing i bought i only ended up not using about 4".
idk if you mentioned it before and i missed it, but since there were a few places on the body, like around that tail light that will have to be addressed, are you still gonna try and leave the rest of the paint alone for that patina look, or paint it?
