Dumb question. Would shaving the cowl defeat the purpose of having a heater? so what im saying i guess does the heater draw that outside air on our trucks through the cowl? thanks

Yes it does. The heater would still work but wouldn't draw fresh air. You would only be able to run it on recycled unless you re-route where it draws from.

i think it would be fine. the air could still enter the cowl from the water/debris drains on the side.

You could cut some holes into the engine bay and through the inner fender. Then run some tubing through and draw from the wheel well.

well thanks for the replys. after removing the wiper assembly and all that, i saw where the heatercore comes up under the cowl there for the fresh air. i went ahead and shaved the wipers and the outside vents but kept the center ones. doesnt look bad in my opinion but to each his own. :D

personally like the look of the shaved myself! For some with them, they have no heater, so its all good, for those that have or want to have the possiblities are endless, and rerouting the intake is and could be the way to do it, as long as its not directly from the engine bay its all good . . .

Where the wipers were, did you put bondo to cover it or did you weld a piece of metal over the opening? Whichever way it looks clean.

Are you going to cover the 2 in the middle too?

kidding about what sam? posting pics? or the shaving ? i tacked some sheetmetal on the back side of the cowl then skim coated the top...with all do respect im not one to half ass stuff. im not doing the two center ones only because im keeping my heater and from what i understand there is a fresh air duct uner the pass. side of the cowl for the heater/vent.

looks pretty sweet! i want to shave one for the 86. wipers and cowl, but have an extra that can be used for daily driving since it's illegal to not have wipers. even though it only rains like 5 times a year in az....

yeah it sucks, but its considered a safety item. in az its technically illegal to not have window washer reservoir if it was factory equipped with one
