a 70-77 toyota corona station wagon has the exact same suspension as the same year's hi-lux The complete story: where it sat for 10yrs unmoving in 2006 i ended up paying the guy $50 his story was sad... bought it in '96 to tow behind his RV. never took the RV anywhere. sold the RV in '00 the wagon just sat. i left 3 notes then knocked on the door and talked to the wife. had it 3 days later.
a good couple baths and some shop rollers, believe it or not it started with a lil brushing to the plugs and some fresh gas lowered the back with some blocks... lowered the front with some heat (note: DO NOT DO THIS it is extremely hard ta keep the car/springrate level. dont be a lazy ass like me and jus take the springs out and chop em) got some better offset rims for clearence
then i went to the junkyard and for about $120 i got a new: head liner, fender, chrome roof rack, back door with wiper, missing botom chrome strip, brake master cylinder and a new tail light housing with no dent and now some spray paint... a lil more and voila
so i came across some cressida rims on craigslist for $90 with some "ok" unmounted used drift tires. b4 after side shot and it got a little lower bout 1.5in so i took a pic with a 20oz coffee cup. the same cup fit under the car with the stock style steelie's turned out that these gold rims were bored out to fit on a 240 so the center caps wouldnt fit, i got new rims minus the gold and boring. they came with huge tires on em that were far superior to lil tires on the gold ones plus i sold the gold ones and tires on craigslist for $150.
Awesome ! Totally awesome, I love the things you have done to this ride, with the new mods its a whole different ride that most people, probably including me wouldve looked far away, but, that ride is bitchN' ! Congrats ! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2619563 LowNloud
now ive got mixed offset supra rims on it. 14x6 on the front 14x7 on the back all thats in honor of the supercharger swap. artist rendering what it had: 45,000 original miles 18-rc with a toyoglide 3speed auto stock am stereo still works starter interlock sys still works with no bugs (fingers crossed) still has original gas cap had original key but i lost it in a river on the fourth of july has original koiyto (spelling) highbeams what its getting: 22r head with a 20r block camden 5in supercharger weber 32/36 5 speed swap power steering swap i got the LC kit used for 1k had it refurbished for $500 @ camden. mocked it up tonight no bolts in and a bit of cleaning to do,better pics with more light soon. another week or 2 and ill have video of it laying rubber
thought i would bump this as ive been a busy beaver lately... the new heart: 20r block with a 22r head auto to W58 (supra) swap camden supercharger @ 7psi weber 32/36 (for now) electric ignition and fan SACHS clutch its in and fitted, i just need to wire it up and run the exhaust. it also turns out that this setup is a F load lighter then the 18-rc. b4 w 18r-c and a A42 slush box (80% cast iron) now with 2XR n W58 (30% cast) i also picked up a 85 corolla SR5 for $500 i think the ricers call it a hachi or the AE86, its real and for sale for a whole lot more. i should make enuff off of it to fund bags and rims and if im real lucky maybe some left over for carpet
i managed a decent pic with my camera have the uglyest header you have ever seen on there for clearance issues. i did not do these hidous welds, this headman was attached to my wheelers new body, and somebody raped it with a stick welder on high. i tried to use the 22r cast tri-y manifold but this is how far it stuck out below the body line i needed something in there i wouldnt beat up and would work for now, i need all new exhaust. i plan on dropping the front more then b4 for a more aggressive stance. now i think it make the SC bling a lil more, just hope i patched all the holes
lookN' . . . Hey, thats looking pretty good. Im likeN' the new additions, that thing is going to rock. Im withya on the welds, those kinda scare the hell outta me, functional for mock-up but, definently a scary sight. Hella nice work, cant wait to see more . . . L o w N l o u d
so its all done need to get a different header so i can hear it to tune, but it does run and drive just fine. gotta run a few hundred miles to break in the clutch and SC then we'll see what she can do. here is a vid of a walk around with the eng running and no SC belt on belt on running much better video coming soon, planning on a 3 way drag race between my wagon a G35 and a audi A4, might even get a 2jz powered corona to come play too
This things cool as! I used to have one of these in a sedan. Was my first car. You shouldn't have painted it tho. Patina rocks! Rat Wagon! Definately put some wires on it, tho.
ya ive been kicking myself every time i open the hood or doors ever since i painted it. i think im gonna block sand it here in a few months as its only a light coat of spray paint over the oem paint. it was more a rust prevention measure then anything. and a lil bit of a update: been having fuel delivery problems so im upgrading... walbro 100gph @ 3psi pump with 1/2in fittings barry grant diaphram bypass fuel regulator w/gauge and 1/2in fittings 1/2in feed and return lines, yet to be purchased or plumbed, but will be asap money permitting. getting ready to turn my old header into a bottle rocket launcher cuz i got a new doug thorley from a internet dating service... online profile pic when it showed up at my door dosent matter tho... id still hit it
I've got a question. You said you put a 22r head on the 20r block? what was the purpose of that? Lowering the compression? or will the supercharger not bolt onto the 20r head? I know alot of people take the 22r blocks and throw a 20r head on it to raise the compression but I've never heard of someone doing it the opposite.
to be perfectly honest i did not put the 22r head on the 20r block... long story short: i bought a "20r" from a friend for $100 about a year later i found out it had a 22r head on it cuz the original one was bad, and he had it laying around. rolled it twice with that eng in the wheeler, pulled it and put a new t-cover n oil pump on then slapped it in the wagon. it never had as much grunt as a 20r would up hills but on flat ground would rev faster then a stock 20r. kinda building a eng on the side for when this one finnally dies, im hoping for a thrown rod or something. been trying to kill it for a few years and i bet psi is the trick. plus it might help a lil bit wiht the lower compression, but a loss on the smaller displacement. when i was driving the wagon with no where near enuff gas in the line, it would almost keep up with my celica, which has a single weber 45 sidedraft and a header. so i bet it will still stomp the **** out of my celica once its tuned.
dude! In My opinion get some wheels with a deep lip!!... idk if yuo know the website but check out teh wheels on ratdat.com
naw never seen that site before. passed it on to some friends over at www.ratsun.net but im not so into the vintage JDM rims, lil too small and not what im going after with this wagon. im trying to make a import "mexican style" lowrider. dead set on chrome daytons with a 2in lip and kinda fluctuating on the wire count at the moment but prolly gonna have 16 or 17's.
