Question.... Has anyone ever removed a whole cab off the frame?? I have to do a clutch job and i think this might be easier than removing transmission.... and trust me taking the tranny out is a HUGE job. So just wonder what all i have to dissconnect.... other than body mounts! Thx Guys
Burnzya's done it on his lowrider mini. If he doesn't reply to this, you could PM him. He'll have to do it again too, he says he needs a new cab for his 4x4.
Well I've never done it but I'm sure it's not that easy either. I've dropped many trannys in these trucks but they have all been with 22r's. So in other words I can't help ya. LOL.
its kind of a bitch. you would need to disconnect the brake and clutch master cylinders from the pedal linkage to avoid having to bleed everything. radiator might need to be removed to avoid damage. theres not a whole lot but the single cab was heavy as hell so i can only imagine how much an extended cab would weigh. maybe you could just pull the motor and tranny as one and change it in the open. or pull out the interior and rework the tranny tunnel so you can get into the bolts easy the next time it needs a clutch.
Lol yea the funny thing about pulling the 2 as one..... wont work. They need to be put in seperate... and the engine unbolted pointing down to slide the tranny on to bolt it up... then set eveything down into place.... really crappy job... Now if i unbolted the cab and jacked it up a bit that might give me the clearance i need..... hmmmmmmm
Heheheheh box is allready off! Getting ready to pul the diff out for the LSD swap. This way i dont have to lay under it!
ive done multiple cab swaps on my wheeler... its a major pain, tho bernie's method of just unbolting the masters is a great F'n idea if it was me: id cut the core support (only holds the rad anyway) then use the new "path" to pull both the eng n tranny at the same time. taking a cab off while leaving a motor doesnt really save any time. trying to guide the cab back on while avoiding brake lines n wires is a real pita. then theres the wiring you have to reconnect. motor/cab swaps are really about the same work, a eng swap is a ton easier by yourself with a hoist, a cab swap is stupid hard to do by yourself (without a lift) im not scared to roll my truck, im scared of doing cab swaps. but then again im kinda fuzzy on how big the shoehorn you used was to get it in there in the first place.
