You still have it? And are you willing to just sell and ship the trans? Probably gonna be more than I can swing but worth a shot if you have it still
Holy smokes. I'll give you the trans for 20 bucks if you can find shipping you want to pay. Or I can meet you in montello NV in the fall. That's as far as I go that way
Check with Greyhound. They will transport packages that meet their weight and size requirements. Usually cheaper than standard carriers.
Thanks Fred! Shack, are you okay with separating the trans and bringing it to a Greyhound station to ship? It looks like shipping is reasonable through them. Also, is the trans in good enough shape? Does it have the shifter?
Trans shifted well. Worked fine when pulled. I'll have to get 40 bucks for taking to Everett tho, and I'll make a crate to ship it in. This is where I'd like to drop it off. 3201 Smith Ave, Everett, WA 98201. That's the "express package grey hound” station. I'm glad someone will use it. I've had a price on it at 200 for 7 months. How much is the shipping across the US? Yes I the shifter will go with it. Bell housing to tail. It's yours
Thank you so much! 40 honestly still seems low especially considering you have to drive somewhere further and make a crate. At least let me give you 60 so you can grab some beer on me for the troubles. When I put in Monroe WA to Byram NJ it showed like $160 but that was making some assumptions on length and weight. Speaking of, to get the full quote I need to have the total weight of the trans and crate (I guess an estimate as I'm sure they'll weigh it there), as well as the length of the crate (they only need the longest dimension of whatever is getting shipped, max size is 29"x47"x82" which I would imagine should be able to hit no problem, although the shifter might have to get unbolted to fit that). Also shoot me a DM and I can give you my cell number to text if you prefer, may be easier than back and forth forum posting.
One other quick thing, it looks like there's also a limit of 100lb per package. Not sure how much the trans weighs and how much wiggle room that gives for the crate, but just a a heads up
I'm gonna load it up now and get a weight on it tomorrow. I'll then post the weight so future mini truckers can know this factoid. Hopefully it's under 100.. do you have a tail? Or a bell housing? Incase we need to shave some weight down... I'll message you for sure, if this weight works out for shipping.
If the bellhousing is swappable from the 4 speed I have that, otherwise I don’t. That said the 100 was per package so if you’re cool with a second box that holds the little stuff if need be that could work
The trans is 102 lbs as it sits in the pic above... I pulled the bell housing. Do you have the L43? I have one. I can compare the 2 and see if the bell housing is the same bolt pattern. Or is a W a W and the L different? Fred??
The L 43 and W50 bell housing should be a match. Both transmissions were factory options. Don’t believe they used two separate housings. (maybe someone else can chime in here). You will need to source a transmission support bracket(cross member) for the W50 as the L43 has different bolt setup. Although I’ve heard of people modifying their existing brackets to fit. Shifter is a must!!! No other shifter will work on the W50. Has to be the exact one.
Nice! I honestly don't know exactly which trans I have, any way to ID for sure? It's a 4 speed with a side shift and the truck is a 77 if that helps
Under the hood on the left inner fender (or near there) will be a metal Toyota ID plate which gives the transmission type. The only 4 speeds for that year were L43’s. I’ve attached my plate so you can see what you’re looking for. It is stamped into the aluminum but may be faint.
The trans with no bell housing is 87 lbs. I'll find a cardboard box, reenforce it, and pack it well. Then weigh again to make sure we're under 100 lbs. 3/8" steel plate will work for the Xmember. The frame sits perfectly on these years for using a flat plate.
Just got a chance to confirm, and Fred is right, L43 trans. So no bellhousing should work perfect. And do you happen to have a pic of what you mean for the cross member?
