Well they screwed me over, did nothing useful, and charged me a bunch of money. I am pretty pissed off to say the least.

Damn. I know nothing of passing smog tests. Not required here. It's it running ok even tho the O2 shows crazy readings at times?

Nope. It runs rough sometimes, and not sometimes. Would probably be easier to figure out if it just ran rough all the time.

Smog restrictions may be a pain in some people's necks, but if an engine is running properly it should have no problem passing. Not passing means something is wrong, so as long as your engine is running right, you should have no problem. An engine that is not running right will be inefficient and prone to early failure, as someone who works on his own engine I feel like a champion every time I pass smog, and my ego is a bit bruised when I don't.

I've got my new electric fan control setup installed. I have 2 thermostatic switches in the radiator, one at 185* and one at 198*. The 185* controls the fan on the passenger's side where the transmission cooler is, the 195* controls the fan on the driver's side where the turbo is. I also kept my manual switch, so I can turn them on on demand as well.

I hooked up the narrowband output of my wideband setup o the ECU, and thins are running much smoother. There is still a minor misfire occasionally, but the AFRs seem to be much more spot on.

Did an IR reading on my CAT, and the back end is getting cold, which is an indicator that it is going bad, so I ordered a new one. I will get that installed as well as a new muffler. I am going from he Flowmaster 70 series to a Flowmaster HP-2, which will give it a more aggressive sound. If I'm not into that, I'll pop the 70 back on, but it is pretty quiet and tame. I don't want super aggressive, but passive doesn't quite do it when I floor it.

    Picture of things will come.

Sick. Definitely interested in seeing your wiring layout. I might mimick it. Your still on the stock ECU?

The new cooling system starts with 4 fuses, 2 for the fans, 2 for the switches.

The thermostatic switches go into the radiator, each triggers a relay.

    Yeah, stock ECU.

My wiring is a little doubled up because I have two switches for two fans for two different temperatures, but here is a rough schematic for a single fan setup in this fashion:

sorry it is rough, I drew it on my phone. For my dual setup, this is how it went:

Most definitely! Now I can start driving her again. It may take a month to get the registration and stickers, but I have all the paperwork to prove that she is AOK.

Now it is time to install the LCE CNC fuel rail that I got a few weeks back. The thing looks very nice, I just have to find the time and effort to tear things down enough to pop it in.

My registration was up in March, I paid for it back then, but failed smog. There is a DMV kiosk in the next town over from me, but they can't deal with these non ordinary situations. I chatted with a very nice DMV gal on the phone, and she told me it would take up to a week for the SMOG pass to be approved, and then another 3 weeks until they mail out the registration.

Yaaaayyy, such a great feeling when you pass smog....then you get that anxiety again in 2yrs when you gotta do it again! lol
Surprisingly I've been thinking to myself that for some reason the last 2yrs all my DMV stuff has been going much faster than basically the two decades before, but YMMV

I'm hoping not to be in California by the next time I need to get smogged.

Some things at the DMV are going super smoothly these days.... some are not. My other truck took 8 months to get the tags after I registered it

Drove to work today and had a big problem on my way there and back. Like 8-10 minutes into my drive, the AFR went waaay lean and the engine would have no power, or die if I was stopped. It would level out for a few seconds, then go right back to waaaay lean. I don't know what is up, I took a quick look under the hood and everything seemed in place, nothing unplugged or that sort of thing.

Tank should be fine, I checked it last year when I put in a new pump. I can check fuel lines and such for clogs as I plan to pop in the new fuel rail one of these days.
It is a brand new AFM, but I do have another I can swap in to check that.
