Had 2.25" on it and the muffler was right behind the cab and dumped right at the muffler. The couple times ive driven it its been soo nice with a quieter exhaust. super weird since im used to it making a crapload of noise
Nice, did you switch up the glass pack to something different? I love a nice loud exhaust but it gets old after driving for even a little. I started liking intake sound more. Even with the downdraft weber can get a pretty mean growl going.
I had switched from a glasspack to a cherry bomb turbo muffler a long time ago. But i drug thru the muffler since i mounted it too low. the louder tone was nice before, made me feel fast. I need to get a video of the exhaust now. It still has a nice tone but its no where near as obnoxious as the old setup
So did your diff need that extra shim? I'm also planning and dumping the exhaust right after the glass pack, but I might have to take your route and bring it all the way back past the axle.. It will be driven almost daily. Sound clip would be awesome!
Pretty sure it did need it. Because the contact marks on the ring gear were on the outside. The backlash was also way off. il try to get a video of it soon
Got the exhaust heatshield delivered earlier. Slapped one on in the back, going to put another under the cab.
I was just looking at the gold thermo tape/wrap at AutoZone.. but I've seen race teams use this style more so then anything.. were you wire it in place. Are those clamps under the shield?
I considered wraps and tapes but this was just way easier to install. 5 hose clamps hold it on. Gotta warm it up and take it for a drive and see how well it works
Gotta watch, some of that thermal wrap isn't meant to get wet. I do like the heatshield you got jetas. Where did you get it from ?
That's because they can wick fluid up. Bigger concern near headers because oil from a valve cover leak can saturate the wrap then you have a fire.
Yea they say to wet it just to initially wrap it but thats its. i got it from Summit Racing, Thermo-Tec brand
Drove the truck down to Long Beach over the weekend for All Toyotafest. Had a pretty cool time there. Put a solid ~160 miles on the truck round trip and for the most part it was all good. Still hearing some sounds i dont really like that i need to hunt down. Ended up having a small moment of realization while at the show, i think i may have fixed my starting issues on the electrical side. The wires going to the plug to the Alt werent holding too well in the plastic plug itself so i had taped it together to hold it in and thought it was fixed. Well now i pulled the tape and the plug fell off the wires lol. Got a new plug and it fired on the first try after sitting for a few days which wouldve normally not happened. anyway enough of this shit, onto some pics
Lol. Most are iphone pics, very few DSLR pics. and Toyotafest is annual. Theres a few mini truck meets coming up pretty soon. Il post em up when i find out the dates
Been gone for a bit but im back. Drove the truck to the Minitruck Revival cruise. Got home decided to swap from the Slam Specialties manifold to some SMC 3/8" valves. Shit snowballed and i ended up relocating the fuel cell and air management, also regained some bed floor in the process and started to frame out the front portion of the bed. (Il get pics later) for now enjoy these Lets see if this link works
So here is basically what i did with the air management and fuel cell, moved the fuel cell forward and regained the back portion of my bed and slid the air management over. before after And some random pics Ride height
Havent done much with the truck for a while. Pulled the stereo out of it last month to put into my OBS i just started driving, been investing time and $ into that one. I did change the float needle and seat in the carb and that sort of fixed my no start when warm issue. Im now realizing that my trans is no bueno, one of the bearings must have gone bad because i hear some terrible noise almost like a growling sound at speed and it increases and decreases in different gears/speeds. So im looking for a back up trans to put in while i rebuild the W58. Posted in the wanted section
I went out to play with the truck over the weekend after letting it sit for a while and spiraling down the rabbit hole of possible issues this thing has. I readjusted the pinion which was for some reason set at 12°, no idea why. Brought it back down to about 3° but my gauge could be playing me and giving a false reading(cheap HF piece). Drove it to work this morning. Growling sound is still there but nowhere near as bad so now im back to square one. Wondering if the pinion bearing isnt getting enough oil or possibly crapped out. i may end up having to cut the cab floor AGAIN and raise the tranny up more to even everything out.
