Well finally everything is ready. I ended up getting polishing done on the flat high spots on the valve cover and upper intake.

Now to get it back together and dropped into the truck.

Assembly is taking longer than originally expected as I am polishing a bit more stuff, lots of cleaning on the other parts and painting the other stuff I didn't/couldn't plate. The throttle body color is off, but at least it is clean.

Well it is in, with a couple of smallish issues. While the driveshaft fit perfect, the auto trans crossmember does not like up with the 1991 5 speeds trans mount. It is the same 4 bolt mount, but it is around 3" off. I tried swapping the trans mount around, which helped, but it still off.

Can anyone with a 5 speed RN25/28 post a photo of their trans cross member please??

The second one is a small one. The 78 front crossmember's engine mount bolt holes are a bit closer to each other than the 91 engine mounts. I pulled the 78 ones off the engine and just need to lift it and swap them (probably Wednesday).

    So far:

Looking good. Are you going to leave the stock airbox on the drv side or will you switch it?

Thanks. I plan on revisiting that once I get the overflow, battery and such in place. I am OK if it looks like a clean OEM 22RE install, but would like to use a shorter intake. Time will tell.

    Thanks Kashimoto!

    The engine mounts are swapped.

The one facing the camera is the 78 one, behind is the 91. You can see the holes on the left do not line up. I also figured out why they changed them... the closer holes make it impossible to use a socket or box end wrench on the top side hardware.

    Thanks Henry.

I do need to re-polish the valve cover as i made a few smudge marks in it, but i do have polishing stuff and have done it in the past to parts on my other cars.

I did get the 91 radiator in the 78, fan and hoses are in too.

Tonight i moving my engine lift and engine stand to my big garage so I have a bit more room here. Then I will lift up one side of the truck as high as possible so I can sort out the trans x member issue.

Well I chopped up the cross member and it should fit good. I will post some photos as soon as I fine tune it and strengthen the e brake bracket.

Finished up installing the trans x member yesterday and verified what I will do to finalize it in the future. Today I finalized all of the clutch lines, bled the system and the manual clutch finally works in a truck that was automatic until i got it :D

I only have two bolts in, which should be fine for the first drive and get it to a lift for more mods.

The clutch master, lines, bracket, hose and slave are all in, plumbed, bled and finally working!

    Thanks Clay.

Of course I did not take a photo (or cannot find the data plate photo) but I think it is a W55 trans. I need to get fluid in the trans (have it), check the rear end fluid then check for leaks if its down and install the shifter.

I am missing some of the spacers that are IN the extension housing oil baffle plastic gasket. So I am waiting on finding them.

Its been a while. The summer, fall and holiday project time were spent on other cars and things. I have picked up a new baffle and bought black carpeting. I feel a bit like crap today, but I do plan on getting out of the garage this long weekend. I will drop/angle the trans so I can get the shifter and baffle on it. Then toss to carpet in to get it out of my office haha.

Work has commenced. A buddy came over and helped out a bunch. The shifter and baffle are installed as well as the fluid being filled. Then we tackled getting the carpeting in... mostly. We ran out of time.

Since the truck was auto, the shifter hole was in the perfect place for the W55 trans, although I did cut about one inch at the front of the hold to make sure the trans was not going to vibrate on the trans tunnel.

I will trim more of the carpet this week and then get the seat into the truck (I will cover it all with carpet protection-tape to keep it all clean during the wiring process).

since this is a bench truck, the center console (I will be dying this black) is small and the shifter is far forward. I plan on trimming the front section of the console and then getting a leather shifter boot made to fill in the hole.

    progress, finally.

carpet is finished. next up, dropping in the seat.

Then cover the carpet and bench with the protection so I can get to the wiring and fuel updating.

The seat is in, put back together and the shifter trim is, trimmed to make room for the custom shift boot.
