Well I finally found a donor for my long term hot rod project. I am going to take my time and build this exactly the way I want.

Yeah. I do plan on making it pretty one day and not keeping it rusty forever.

Haven't done anything lately, except finally change the title over. I am trying to figure out both my grill and wheel choice. Originally I was going to try and do a replica Toyota AA grill. This would involve 3D printing and a lot of work. I am thinking what I might do now is get a repo grill for this and heavily modify it. I figure if I turn both halves sideways then do some cutting and splicing and re-welding. I can come up with a Toyota version hot rod style grill made from Hilux grills. I will knock up a rendering and post ir so you guys get a better idea.

I am also trying to decide on wheels. Ideally I would like it to have 22s in back and 18s in front, tuner style wheels. This will be a traditional style hot rod, but I want it dripping with Japanese tuner flavor and leave everyone with no doubt to it's origin. So I don't know if I should buy the wheels I want now so I can set up the frame, or work out the size I want and use the Hilux wheels and just get wildly different tires to set the frame up for now?

Finally getting closer to what I want to build. Here is a new concept art.

I know it has been a little while since I posted on this project. This is my super long term retirement hotrod, so it will move slowly. I have mainly been concentrating on my 93 lately. I have made some progress little by little.

I have updated my concept drawing to more show what I am going to do.

I also got some good seats. In line with the direction of the build I got some 1st gen MR2 seats for it. Don't worry, they will get recovered.

I also finally got a tailgate.

Finally, I have a huge announcement. I was able to work a deal and trade a vintage car I have had for sale to get the bulk of the fab work done on this. It should be happening in the next few weeks to month or so. When it comes back it will look pretty much like the drawing and will be closer to a running hotrod style.

looks great, you will have to cut a big chunk of floor out to fit the trans in though.

LOL, NOT IN A MILLION YEARS!!!! I will never disgrace my Toyota by putting GM crap in it! This hotrod will be built 100% with Toyota or aftermarket parts. For awhile it will maintain the 22R that is in it. Later down the road it will get the 2JZ. I haven't decided if it will stay manual or go auto when I do that.

So here is my tailgate on my truck.

The new shoes for Frankentoy. If anyone follows my other build you will recognize these as the old wheels off my 93.

Lol, I agree on keeping things Toyota if you're swapping drivetrains into vintage Toyotas. If I had the $ and space I'd be taking a donor SC400 (1uz) or SC300 (2jz) and swap over the whole front and rear subframes along with the heart transplant...but for now my 20r has to do ;)

Thats cool, I love the 2j motor, but ive always wanted to bulid a hot rod with the gearbox in the back. You could take an eye out with those wheel nuts :)

Finally got my IRS out of storage. I originally planned this for my 93 but now it will go under this.
