I have a 89 xcab and the v6 motor has a blown head gasket trucks good its has an automatic tranny , I want to replace the v6 with a 22r is it worth it
everyone told me not to get the v6 3vz in my truck for the exact reason that its bad with head gaskets
the 22re is a great engine that will last almost forever with good maintance. the 22re stock does not have a lot of power. i read a couple of years ago that it has around 115hp. i have 225K miles on mine. want to put something bigger in the truck, but i want to see it hit 300K without an overhaul.
put in some of this headgasket repair made by CRC its called copper block weld let it stand for 1 1/2 days ran it to work and back runs better than before no leaking water in to cylinder wow Ill let you guys know how long it last hahahah
Head gaskets typically go with age, but the 3VZ is the worst with them (other than the Dodge Neon). My 22RE had blew it's head gasket in 2008 (20 years in the making) and it ran on 3 cylinders. I love the torque of the 22RE, but despise the lack of top-end power. I'd go for the 22R in either fuel injected or carbed any day, but would go for the turbo hands-down. Higher mileage ones do need to get the timing chain replaced, so if a head gasket is bad, get the timing chain done too. (I wish I did, but the mechanic said it looked fine. Another thing: I'd ditch the auto, manual's more fun, you have more control, the tranny doesn't overheat as easy, and you get more off-the-line torque.
Manuals win but yeah, 22RE wins or get a 5VZ-FE swapped in place of the V6 you have now, you'll be far happier
my friend used that in his 4x4..... now its my 4x4 and i'm looking for a head. it eroded the aluminum.
Yeah, getting new head and gaskets is the best way hands down, even if they are not a genuine Toyota ones.
