After I had my 74 hilux stolen and recovered, no damage or missing parts, I am trying to better secure the vehicle. I ordered a new ignition a couple days before, to prevent it being started with a screw driver. I'm just wondering what other people are doing to protect their trucks.
A good alarm & the club! I've been using Crime Guard alarms on all our cars for a lot of years, made in the USA, life time warranty, & starter disable, also has rolling code feature! Can order through Crutchfield.
If you have the tank mounted fuel pump, just interrupt the negative ground wire to the fuel pump relay with a toggle switch hidden under the dash. I prefer this method as it allows the thief to think he got away with it. When the fuel is gone from the carburetor bowl, the truck dies. Hopefully in the middle of a street somewhere. You know the theif isn't going to hang around trying to get it restarted.
I took the dash apart with wires showing, and started peeling off the bad paint job in patches. The thing looks like it's a heap of shit, so nobody even looks to see if there's 2k worth of stereo in it or not. I could leave it unlocked and it'd probably be fine Ugly = Security That said, I recommend at least having a starter kill, if not a full-blown alarm system with recovery tracking in it.
I need to do the same. Was thinking of doing one of those clutch/brake pedal locks - what do you guys think of those? They look as easy to use as "the club". I know 2 people who's cars got stolen with the club installed. Also going to do the fuel pump switch, since it's fairly easy to do.
Fuel and starter kill plus a quick release steering wheel should be more than enough right? Lol. Thats what ive got planned, hope it all works out
Is the Grant vehicle security system the only "anti-theft steering wheel" system on the market? I like the idea since you're definitely not going anywhere without steering - but I'm not really a fan of the wheel options they have.
Im curious as to how much closer to the driver the NRG quick release moves the wheel in a early 2nd gen
I am going to get the Nrg wheel and lock for it. I just installed a starter kill switch, I would have preferred a fuel pump one, but I have a mechanical pump.
