Hi can anyone give me some good advice on how to get my torsion bar bolts to budge the lock nut won't move but the bolt does ... Can I just grind off the lock nut and other nut ?
Have you tried working on JUST the nut and lock nut? If you can get a wrench wedged up against the frame and the other accessible with a hammer, that would be the way to go...If you're using a wrench up top and a ratchet on the bolt from underneath, chances are it wont break free. The lock nut definitely does its job! Gotta get the nuts separated. I went down to Toyota and got new bolts/nuts before trying to mess with my torsions... Good thing i did! Grind/cut/whatever you gotta do bro! Better than busting knuckles
Well I'm saying is it safe to cut off with grinder with that much pressure on the torsion bars even with the truck jacked up and a jack underneath the tire ... Would some cardboard or a piece of wood help to put underneath floorboard so that once grinder off the pressure doesn't shoot threw the floorboard ?
Yea I've been trying with a 22mm wrench up top and a breaker bar on bottom with a 22mm deep well socket on bottom
I had to torch one off of my old 89. When it finally split the dam thing shot out FAST. Try torching the nuts and see if theyll seperate. Otherwise get new hardware from the dealer and cut the dam thing out
Yea I'm going to go to the dealer to get new bolts sometime this week but I don't have a torch I don't think I can get a grinder on the bottom bolt head to grind it off resulting me to grind off the lock nut and other nut would that work?
If you need bolts and nuts I have a set that is perfect.I also have a cordless impact from ingersoll rand that makes fast work. If you need help let me know.
Take the pressure off the bolt and nut first. And like everyone said get new nuts and bolts from the dealer. I had to after mine were stubborn to come off. I also replaced the half moon that centers the bolt because i took a chunk off with the grinder.
I got the passenger side off by cutting the top of the bolt then I was able to get a deep 22mm socket on the lock nut with a breaker bar then propped the 22mm wrench up against the frame to give it leverage on the other nut ... after removing the nuts and bolt I noticed the bolt threads were stripped causing the lock nut to be seized ... That **** sucked
Wow Im glad that is over with ...all done now... It took me a day and a half just to get them off...and I didn't have to grind anything off ... Thanks for the quick feedback guys
I went to the Toyota dealership and bought them today for 18 dollars I gotta pick them up tomorrow I hope there the right ones
