Well, as many of you know those of us who have 350z wheels on our trucks have to deal with using the Nissan center caps or try and find some other option that might or might not fit inside the rims. Basically if you have my setup you've bored out the rear rims (67.06mm) and are running a 5/16" spacer with 4x4 lugs up front. Because the front dust caps prevent center cap installation I'll only focus on the rear. I started with the original Nissan center caps that came with the rims and a set of Prius center caps. I bought these because well the ebay listing claimed they were diameter as what I needed (I've forgotten the specs by now) but in reality they were just the slightest bit larger. So they didn't fit. Basically you should be able to buy a set of each of these caps for around $40 ($20 each set of 4). You will only need two for what we are doing here. If you set them side by side you'll notice that the Prius caps are taller. Also the Nissan cap when installed sits flush with only the Nissan logo bulging out. The Prius cap would sit higher and on top of the rim since it is a larger diameter. But it looks like it was designed to sit like that on the Prius rims as well so no biggie. Really I tried everything to get these caps to work even using the Nissan spring which is smaller than the Prius spring. I then realized that the clip part of the Prius caps were just too high up as opposed to the Nissan caps. There was just nothing to be done about that. Or so I thought... I love that stuff. I've used it for several years now on bumpers and all kinds of other plastics. It just sticks and it dries hard as hell. Anyhow, I just said f-it I'm gonna glue these Prius caps to the top of these Nissan caps. I started by removing the center spring and breaking off the clips. I then ground down the bulging part of the Nissan logo. Sorry I didn't take pics of this as I tend to forget to do so. I ground it down pretty close to flat. I left a little meat on there only because it felt kind of thin in the middle. Then I ruffed up the back side of the Prius cap with 80 grit to expose the plastic. I then put a dab of the Fusor glue and sandwiched the caps together. Being careful to center the Prius cap over the Nissan cap. This glue dries pretty fast so within 30 minutes you can slap the caps on. Yes I know my rims are scratched, but I got a good deal on them and since I'm a painter I'll be painting them eventually. M
Good job with that fix. It would bother me so much if I was running a different companies wheels and have to be stuck with their center caps.
Yeah, thing is I would never put them on like that. It did bother me that there were no caps though. I actually had purchased a set of 3 "Toyota" center caps that used the old "T" logo that kinda looks like a Pontiac symbol. I may still use those eventually. They are machined aluminum. I already have them primed, just need to sand them and pick the right color for my rims to paint them. I figure I'll just paint the dust caps to match as well. I thought I had a pic of them but I guess I never took one. I'll try and post a pic of them tomorrow.
