Well most very year I try to change something on my truck & this year is no exception! I started today a change from my flag style Toyota 4 Runner power mirrors to 92 Camaro power mirrors. Got the wiring figured ou ,Toyota uses 3 wires & Chevy 4. Played around for a few hours with the positioning & found what I think looks best. Will have to make new holes & fill the stock ones which means repainting a portion of the doors. If can't get a good match I'll lay some more flames on the doors! I also have to make new plastic spacer/mounts between the mirrors & body, which will become part of the mirrors, than paint all to match the body!! Let me know what you guys think!
How does it sit, if you didn't have a spacer? Looks a little low and the angles just seem "off" ...But that's just me. Picture #2: __] <-- can this side sit parallel with the angle of the cab/window and not look like its tilting downward?
I say pass on them. They seem to need too much work to flow. I like the style of the head and all that though, flows with the truck lines real well.
Yup those are fugly mirrors that require a bunch of work to make work. I'd sooner staple my nuts to my chair than use those mirrors.
Making a mod work is what I do,hard work goes with it!! End results & having a stand out ride don't come easy!! And White Trash, I'll supply the stapler!!!
YOguyDA, I just have the passenger side sitting on a block @ the height needed to get measurements & check the look from front ,rear & side, also use from inside. Going to Tap Plastic this morning to get material to make the stand offs. Than refit,if all is good drill new mounting holes ,than fill the others, than move to other side. Repainting will be the last thing!
I'm not saying to keep the stock mirrors on there at all. I'm just saying if I was going to do all the work needed to change them I'duse some that actually matched the truck. The mirrors are sleek with swooping lines and you're attaching them to a square truck.
I disagree ,the body lines pressed into the sides of the 84-88's are very distinct,& these mirrors carry those same lines, reason I chose them! But than we all have our own likes & dislikes! The offer is still there if you need a stapler!!
I have meet Gary and know his skill. What we might not like now, once he is done it will be a differnt opinion. I know he will pull it off.
I have faith... constructive criticism is what I'm offering I think mounted above the bodyline and find a happy medium between parallel with the angle of the cab and the ground...just looks low and tilted towards the cab a little much. I'm sure it looks defferent in person, lol.
So today in around 4 hours & the same amount of beers ,I got the stand off made & the mirror mounted! Looks great ! Will start on the other side Monday & than mold the stand offs into the mirror it self so all is on one piece! I put a fair amount of angle into the stand off & used 3/8'' thick material .
Did you see his side mirrors? lol I'm not 100%, but they look camaro'ish...it would make sense, since he put an ls1 in his truck. Anyways. It looks good! Can't wait to see the finished product and full body pics, once its out of the garage!
They are powered mirrors like the 4 Runner that I had on the truck. Chevy are 4 wire & Toyota is 3,but Steve helped figure that out. And the mirrors on that white Toy do look like the same ,mounted a bit farther forward than where I'm mounting!
Those fit the truck perfect allways thought camaro mirrors would look good on are body style kind of like when they put the SS style mirrors on full size chevys and get rid of the dumbo ears anyway looks great can't wait to see them done. Does the base adapter u made have a tapper to it or is it the same thickness top to bottom?
A tapper front to rear & bottom to top, thicker & rear & top. Will take measurements today with truck laid out so can get both the same. I'll get some more photo's up of the stand offs before I mold to the mirrors!
