Ok I have a 93 Toyota pickup with a blown engine and I'm wanting to drop in a 22r carbed out of a wrecked truck.. My old 3vze 4runner was converted to a 4banger carbed.but I didn't remember what wireing he used. The truck it's coming out of is a 87 22r with a weber carb it idles real good and have a lot of get up. I would go back fuel injected but I'd love to get everything in order. And don't wanna run ECM The black truck here is where the 22r going in! Here 2 of my yotas 82 and 93
Both my trucks are carb'd since that's how they came. Unless you're planning on making a whole bunch or naturally aspirated HP going from EFI to carburated is silly. You have a good 87 engine, just bolt the intake from the 93 onto it and bolt it in the truck. Done deal it'll run. Toyota EFI is dead nuts reliable, wish I could say that about my weber and stock carb.
Exactly like he said, use the old engine/head with your current manifolds. Use whatever front accessories work for you. The head is the same, intake pattern is the same, cam specs are slightly diff but the ecu shouldn't notice much. Should be an easy fix. Cool other trucks too.
Thanks guys.. I have 5 Toyotas I still have the efi setup still..I'm not sure what to do at the moment. It's also the cheaper way going carbed. I'm not sure what to do also has a strong running 21r spare engine. I miss hitting the hills and levees also I have a solid axle from an 81. That Im gone swap.. I don't see much 4wd guys on here..also wanting to turn these 32 around while saving fuel.. I need some motivation.
Hmmm. So your build plan is to convert the 2wd to solid axle 4wd? Run 32" tires and ya want a simple setup that gets good mileage. I would say for ease of fuel system to keep the truck with what it had and stay EFI. Otherwise you need a new fuel pump, or a regulator to go to carbed. But factoring in being able to swap the 21r in for a spare, is say go weber. Then just swap motor/head/intake and keep the carb if you blow the 22r up. I've run a 21r before. Same motor, had it in my 78 then in an 84. It just had a header and a weber with ported intake, and it had fairly decent power for what it was...a low compression 2.0 motor instead of a 2.2 or 2.4. I look at them as debored 20Rs. They basically are. Same 20r head and intake. 79-87 built. Anyways, let me know if ya need more info or advice.
Was hoping a direct drop in without any or major problems.im also going drop the trans out that ex cab and put in my 88toy after I put in the trans it didn't go in gear at all I had the 21r for any ideas
21ru is junk. It's a backup, backup, backup engine at best. I've converted 2x to 4x a couple times, it's not hard at all. There is far less junk to cut off of a 2x frame than an IFS 4x frame by far. You'll need the 4x trans & case of course along with the 4x steering box. As far as the trans not going into gear can you shift it into gear then start the truck with your foot on the clutch? I've had the pilot bearing lock up on the input of the trans a few times so it won't go into gear since the clutch won't disengage.
I have a 93 4wd with a 22re thrown rod..and wanting to put the carbed 22r in it.. My plans with that truck is to be a nice looking daily on 32s without the electronic fi . I hade taken a rotted81 4wd with the solid axle wand wanting to put on the 93 in the future. For reliable off road fun. I have never worked with fuel injected not much experienced. It's a budget build
I cannot go in any gear. It's a 4spd.when I removed it it was just fine, I took the shifter out and put it in and it feels jammed.. Now I have a 5spd out the parts truck wondering if I have to do a different driveshaft hope not thanks again
Ok I have my 88 up and running with a 5spd now 4months ago. Right now I just dropped the 22r in the 93 4wd. What wires I'll need to run the carb.i don't ran by rig anything up. Unless I really have to.and I have a bunch of other wires from the efi. .tell me what I need to do with the fuel delivery? I have a manual pump on the engine already. And where's the electronic pump location at on the 93
No I don't own it. It's rigged up look good on the outside but rigged out inside I tried to make friends with the guy he seems to have ****ty ways. Or didn't wanna be bothered
Im Wanting to change the 4wdsetup on my 93 4wd to a sas. Is everything bolt on if i find a sas. Do i need the transfer case from the donor truck as well. Is the original 4wd setup reliable? I does light trailing somtimes
