Hey guys I have a 91 pickup 3.0 auto 2wd ext cab. I just started driving it again(sit for 2 years) I'm getting around 200 miles to a tank is that normal? I changed the oil, filter, air filter, fuel filter, wires cap and rotor about a month ago, didn't help. The CEL is not on. I'm thinking the oxygen sensor may have something to do with the millage?? Any ideas?? Thanks

Very possible that the O2 sensor is malfunctioning or gone out. You can get a new OEM one from Rock Auto for around $50. There hella expensive everywhere else. I would also run some Seafoam through it and add a little to your gas tank if it has been sitting that long.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a 3vze in my 4runner. After ordering tons of parts, and taking it to the dealer a few times, they told me that 10-13 mpg was fairly normal. Didn't make sense to me, but after the engine rebuild, new injectors, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignitor, coil, cold start injector, multiple air filters, O2 sensor, and a few other things, I accepted it.

    Sold it soon after.

Are you in a state that does emissions testing?

i currently get around 20-24mpg so my tank lasts me between 300 to 350 miles... depends on how much city or highway driving i do. the motor is new, probably 40k miles on it. i use 20-50 castrol non synthetic. ive done the catback with a magnaflow, and an ebay intake. made a huge improvement.

im getting ready to do the headers on it and see what that nets me. ill soon look to do some balanced injectors for it and now im being convinced to remove the egr system as it helps out a good deal so i am told.

I wish I would have tried that. I sold it before I really started researching what the different systems on the engine did. I know way more about engines, tuning, and what they are capable of now.... Would definitely do things differently.

oh yea man! its always a learning curve... trial and error and so on. my knowledge is based on experience, either by my that of my own or others that have taught or shared it with me.

interesting.... didnt the camry 3vzfe have dual cams? or 24 valves or something? what year camry are the cams in?

tell me more about this setup? what exactly does it do, how do you set it up, what gains can you see from these, and whats it run?

What year is the inspection cut off? If you spend the money on the Apexi, you may as well ditch all the factory stuff and go MegaSquirt. Lose the AFM and all the emissions crap and just make pure power.

    Fixed it for you.

I have less than no love for the 3vze. They are a severely over complicated and about as user friendly as a cactus toothbrush. The only upside to a rig equipped with a 3vz-fe is that a 5vz-fe bolts right in it's place with no mods.

yea, i know the 3vz is about as pure a race breed horse as a mule but, any little bit helps until i swap in my dream swap.

the inspection cutoff here in cali is 74'. so i have no hope of ever making it. my only hope is to go register this truck in a neighboring state or legally swapping in a LSx motor with a bar'd number.

From what I was told one of each cam swaps over but ya have to buy a cams gears to sort it out

I would just get set of cams from colt cam's they do a re grind for them

Colt Cams - custom camshaft grinding

    but my setup was

89 supra afm with stock mk3 box with new cold air ducting (larger) k&n drop in
    fuel reg
    apexi neo
    dough thorly headers
2.25 to 2.5 exhuast maganflow 2.5 chmaber muffler and 2.5 magnaflow 4 inc round
    egr delete
    e-fan
    mk3 supra ignition coil
copper plug with supra spark plug gap
wide ban to tune it all

had a power map and gas saver map

see the 3 biggest issues the 3 slow had was

very very small cam shaft's that I never got to install since I sold the truck there got to be about 30 hp gain just from the cam shaft's with supporting mods there so small

    22re sized afm

    bad exhuast manifold design

truck was light and day every did not bleav me it was a 3 slow used to blow up diff's on every outing it was rather annoying

and twsited one shaft when I crack the housing holding the ring gear

    power and weight (diff killer)

interesting build.... i appreciate the ifo you shared. im trying to map out my header install as it is. i know they are not a fun install... the afm is likely my next mod, as well as a AFR gauge and some balanced injectors from lce. gonna look into the rest of your mods and see if its worth shelling out the money... its a fairly healthy motor with little mileage on it so im sure its worth the investment.

I've got to disagree with White Trash about the 3vze. Yes, they have a bad rap, and like the 22re they are expensive to build for what you get, but not totally worthless. Mine (after the build) was reliable, but just didn't get good milage. As I said, I'd do it differently today.

you know, i bought this truck with the reputation of the 3.0 in the back of my head... but now after having it for 1 year, ive come to like this motor. they are honestly not difficult to work on if you take your time to do stuff right. yes, there are some engineering flaws like manifolds and some other bits but nothing that makes this a bad toyota product. power wise it was not the slowest v6 at the time it was released considering the competition in those days.

im gonna treat this motor right and keep reporting in on my modifications here too.
