I have a 93 single cab short bed and my cousin wants to sell me his full vq35 swap for only 1150 is it worth putting in our trucks if so what has to be done?
That's the Nissan 300zx motor correct? Not much info on the swap but id say do it. I always like big crazy motor swaps. Maybe search around the jap boards. Over there it's common to put sports car engines into their trucks due to how easy parts are to come by.
Anything will fit. These engine bays are pretty open. I've seen inline 6s with turbos, various small blocks, even a few big blocks. I can't see why it wouldn't fit.
I think on that, you'd just wanna keep the smog systems from the newer motor to replace the systems the truck had. Or get an older truck like I plan lol.
I don't think there is any way to do that swap legally in commifornia. Smog oaws are complete and utter bull**** since there is more to it than a sniffer test. That right there tells you its about money.
I know they have underhood inspections and comp scans too. But 75 and older is exempt. And I read somewhere that you can transplant a newer motor system in if retaining original emissions systems to that engine. But I can't recall if that applies to Cali as well When/if I move there, I'm diesel swapping my dodge and getting an older Toyota. That will solve my issues.
Western WA sucks so bad it makes people want to move to a communist state. As far as I know in CA you can't swap engines between manufacturers since the engine has to have been available in the newer model of vehicle its going into. Such as when Marlins son Big Mike swapped a 3rz into his 83 it was legal since it was a natural progression. And yes all factory smog garbage had to be retained.
Again, if I go I'm getting an older truck lol. Back on point, it would be a cool swap to do. Making the power stick to the street migh be tough without wide tires.
I don't think swapping between manufacturers is a problem as long as you have the COMPLETE smog equipment from the newer vehicle; lots of SB Chevies and Fords end up in places they don't belong. But swapping between vehicle types is not allowed. That is, you can't put an engine that came out of a car in a truck or the other way around. As someone said, the smog laws are a lot of BS; read up on all the smog laws if you plan to try and do it legally...
Im swapping a diesel in mine as we speak. An irs would be a good idea an maybe something to add a little weight to the back
