i'm trying to identifiy my transmission to get some parts or possibly tackle doing a 5 speed swap.

current transmission is a 4 speed automatic overdrive. is it the A-43D?
there is nothing wrong with the transmission, i just like shifting gears!

another thought was to buy another automatic and have it rebuilt, but heavy duty. i know they used the same trans in some Rv's and doing that kit upgrade would dramatically increase the longevity of the trans.

thanks for any and all feedback :waytogo:

The A43d is a pretty stout trans. If you pull it, I may be interested in having another around. I'm running 12 pounds of boost in front of mine now, and while I also love shifting, I can't justify the work and money to swap to a manual.

nothing wrong with my current trans, i was just trying to get the identification narrowed down so that i can buy another and overhaul it and have it on standby.

    I have a 1978 pickup with a 3-speed automatic, would a A43d trans bolt right in?
    Thanks,

    Pete

    i honestly couldn't tell you.
since mine is overdrive, i have a selector knob on the dash that lets me turn the overdriver off and on at will.
