ok guys, per requests, heres the writeup on the turn signal running light mod. BE AWARE this is on a set of 4runner bumper turn signals and the 2wd signals may vary on design slightly so further modifications may be necessary. but here's the basics on how to tap in power for the running lights. you will need. - wire 14-16ga. - bullet connectors (x6 pairs) - 2 wire tap connectors - 2x 1157 sockets and pigtails. (i got mine from the back end of a 4runner tail light set) - test light - wire crimpers/cutters i started off by picking a pair of these up from the local yard. reason being is these sockets will fit like factory with the rubber seal as well. you can pick up sockets from autozone but they wont fit nowhere near as nice as these will. note the double contacts. also take note, these sockets have 3 tabs on them for the sockets to hold in place. you will need to cut these down a little bit to fit in the factory signal sockets. there will be a picture later to show in comparison. next. take your side markers off and locate the green wire wich is the (+) power side to your markers. use the 14-16 gauge wire, and a inline wire tap to tap power from this source...... if unsure what power is on your side marker, using a simple test light hooked to a ground will confirm your power source. turn your side markers on and whatever wire powers the light will be your (+) source. next, run that wire (mine was green) down to the area where the turn signal sits with enough slack. cut your stock socket out and attch a bullet connector to each wire. on the bottom wires, the green wire will be your turn signal (+) source. white with a solid black line will always be your (-) ground. connect your wires to the rear of the socket. white goes to white. green goes to green. make sure that when you turn your running lights on, that your dim filament lights up for running lights, and your brighter filament lights when your turn signals come on. that is how they are supposed to be run. remember, on the 4runner turn signals, you will need to trim or use a dremel tool to grind down the tabs in order for them to fit in the sockets. heres what mine looked like after trimming. i took the long one off completely and the other flat ones cut down into half. after all this is done, recheck your work. test your lights before you screw them back on to the truck. make sure they work properly and that all wires and connections are secure!
Nice write up buddy. I may have to steal some of that thinking to make my fender and bed lights blink with the blinkers and not just glow. Need to take one off and see what will fit. I bet this will help lots of people out.
yea... im not sure what that was... i think the ground behind me was wet and the reflection from the gas station caught the reflection off the ground..... or maybe i got ricer neon ninja'd while i wasnt lookin...
So then it's an issue of too much space under the truck. Shouldn't be any room to see any light that's behind the truck If you don't believe me see below \/ \/
