Having a little trouble with my lights. The brake, running, and corner lights aren't working. Got a new relay as I thought that may be the problem, but it didn't help. I have a brake light light switch ordered, but was wondering if anyone else had any insight if that didn't work. I got my lights working for now, corner and running lights that is, but running a hard wire from the tail light fuse to another fuse that gets power so they stay on constantly while the car is on so I can at least drive it for now, but brake lights still aren't working, so it has to be the switch right? Already checked all fuses and wiring and everything looked straight.
Alternator went out, so I replaced it and did the big 3 along with running a direct wire to my alternator. That shouldn't of messed with anything though, and like I said, I've checked my wiring as well as my grounds for the lights. Hoping it is just the brake light switch.
Proably your brake switch . They do go out specially if the brake pedal arm has a little side to side play in it threw its motion . It's pretty tuf on the switch Should be able to test it buy removing the switch and jumping the pins with a paper clip to simulate braking
did you leave in the stock wiring along with adding the new wire from the alt to the battery? if you didnt, and cut out the stock alt wire, or left it disconnected, did you splice in the BOTH wires that tag off the alt wire? there is one on the drivers side inner fender, right behind the stock air box and one on the passenger side right by the battery. this happened to me a few months ago when i did the big 3 upgrade and missed the drivers side spliced wire. it powers the running lights, gauge lights, and brake lights. here is my thread on yotatech about it. lights out - YotaTech Forums
Wow, worked like a charm. I wouldn't of thought that the original wiring would've made a difference since I followed it and it looked like it was a single run for the alt, but sure enough it s ted into the lights. Didn't have this kind of problem on my d50 nor my blazer so I wouldn't of even thought of that. Thanks buddy!
cool, glad you got it working again. when i did this, i was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what i had done and screwed up in the process. i found the one on the passenger side when i was running the new wire and spliced that one in but i had no idea about the other one and cut the stock wire like 3 inches before the splice so it was not getting power. i just happened to look under the fender and saw the harness running back to the fire wall and when i wiggled it, the stock alt wire (where i cut it) moved with it. i ran power to it and when everything worked again, it felt like i had won the lottery.
Ha! That's about what happened to me, just strange that is wired that way. I was starting to lose my cool when this and that wasn't working. Thanks again for the help!
