all you guys with the 22re or any Toyota truck. has anybody raced a Honda vtec and won or anything else either???
If you talking bout b18c5 h22 or k20 swapped civics . Hard to hang with a motor like that and there incredibly well placed gear ratios .and light cars Even the 160hp b16 puts up a fight b h k series motors live at high rpms Take your average stock r series with bolt ons won't hang there just to different animals I owned a h22 swapped del first autox car i owned it ran 13s flat in the 1/4 mile on street tires spinning it would walk my built 22r in my truck buy the middle of second gear
Yea Honda motors are good ain't no lie about that motor was stock internals header intake flywheel clutch hondata programmer ecu and intake gasket rc10 injectors it's hard to even achieve 190 crank hp on a r series motor and obtain street ability . You want to eat up Hondas might look at 1uz swaps or turbo 2rz swaps
Had a b18 on solid mounts in a 1st gen crx Si 12.5 quarter with VTEC controller long gone now but my brother has a JDM ITR swap from jhp and I kill him on launching and did a 20 punch with an m5 got him by a car length
I beat jeeps and minivans all day long. Civics, I hang with them so the above comments are inaccurate.
when I had my 93 I had a downey air-intake and a flowmaster 40 series exhaust. I think if you had a light weight flywheel clutch and a bigger cylinder head, header and a cam and a bigger lighter crankshasft. also a bigger pistons and valves. I figure if you bump the horsepower and reduce weight from the motor. i think you could take on a b,h, or f-series motors i think!!!
Nah...unless you did some major motor work. VTEC motors with same exact bolt ons such as cams, headers, etc. would kill 22r motors. Sorry but 22r motors weren't meant for hp on the top end but tq at lower rpms.
What he said ^ Short answer, honda has a toyota by 300-500 lbs most days. They can also hit 200 hp crank alot easier than a 22R. They can also get 250-300 without spray or boost if you have some cash or the right combo of frankenparts. I'm taking crank HP. I used to be able to kill a D series honda all day, but most B series gave me a good even run until they start running to 8500 rpm and I shift at 6k. Not to mention, street racing is not smart in this state. The cops are watching for it. I used to do it, and quit before I got busted too badly. I say who cares what the guy next to you has. Build a 22r up with the normal bolt ons and yada. It'll be fun as ****. Its a truck, you don't need to be out racing hondas. Let them get busted.
Yup . It's a pipe dream . I love my r motor but if your Hondas are anything like the midsouths . You gotta bring it . Those kids are hitting some low 1/4 mile times . Cage territory in a street car
I used to have a friend with a 92 hatchback civic. Had a B20 block with a b18 head, ITR cams, the trans with tall gears (GS/LS? I dunno, not a honda guy). Various other bolt ons like a cold air intake, OBX header, ect. It ran 12.5 at the track. Dyno'd 240 or so at the wheels. No spray or boost. I could pull the first 100 feet or so off a light (read: 22r is for torque) but by the time I was grabbing 3rd gear, her car was flying by. So, keep your plans realistic and have fun with what can be built easily. If you want a toyota truck with more than 200hp, you need a different engine, probably more cylinders too.
It's all about that headflow. Port and polish, intercooled turbo, built block, and standalone. You also have to understand that these Honda's have 4.xx and 5.xx final drive ratios, too. I drove a K20 Civic. From 1 til about midway past 5k, I was waiting for the power to click when VTEC engaged. Until then, I was shifting right before redline so the next shift falls inside the power band.
My main reason to not like hondas is front wheel drive. My main reason to love them is the engines they build are phenomenal. They know how to space the gearing and have a very stretched out RPM band. The 22r, and the W trans for that matter, just isn't setup for the same kind of usage. Don't let that discourage you. They still haul balls all day.
My truck keeps up with sohc v kids. Running a 22r with 32/36 , 9lb flywheel, centerforce stage 2 clutch, header, electric fan. I keep up with sohc v hondas depending how built they are. When the sohc motors are in the coupes and have bolt ons I keep up. Anythkng in a hatch u can forget it. I can keep up with some B series but its all low end. Once we hit 3rd gear its good bye already(GSR) TEG. If u want to pick on the bigger brothers of the sohc v. Like b h k f. Series then u need wat trfknd has. 2rz boosted. Then u stand a chance. Drag races we have better chance. Freeway runs we lose out.
yeah!!! I was curious there was a guy in my high school. he had a black lowered 92 Toyota pickup. he had 17's intake header exhaust done too. he used to race in seattle and beat people all the time. the truck looked like a jdm Toyota truck. that was my intention until mine got totaled!!! I miss her rip 93 Toyota 2wd pickup!!! I plan to get a taco soon. i'll keep you guys posted too!!!
If he was racing at S.I.R in Renton then he was at the High School Drag nights. That is not racing. High School Drag night is consistent runs. Like how close can you get to your previous time. So the people that win those "races" are the kids that show up in their parents Ford Explorer or anything else with an auto transmission. Knowing who races there he wouldn't beat much in his truck. No offense but I use to drive with guys that were running mid 6's at S.I.R. If you were talking about the street races in Kent then no way was he beating people. I grew up owning and racing muscle cars but the little crappy hondas that race in Kent would KILL any modded toyota (unless it was a 1UZ ir 2RZ turbo swap). Like stated above, if you want a "go fast" Toyota Pickup then a motorswap is a must. If you are staying with the 22R then get as low as you can and stay slow.
Call Johnny tran order up a s2k with. 16 speed gearbox . ..( Race wars )won't even no what hit them . Racing on dirt.. SMH Seriously if you got the funds swap a f22c in there that will confuse them
