From what I have seen, the stock hilux rim was silver. As were most toyota steel wheels. I painted mine black for a while, then bronze. Center caps are stainless and polish up nicely.

The truck is gorgeous. I haven't seen stock paint that nice before, mine doesn't even clean up that well and I started with a pampered low miles truck too.

Thanks. Some of the advertisements I found online show black wheels with the yellow paint. I had my wheels powdercoated black and the centercaps a high gloss silver. It won't be factory original but will look just as good if not better. I'll get tires purchased this week and update with some pics.

Wheels should look really good then. The ads on toyotareferance? good stuff. I wish I had more of the old stuff in my book case. Have lots of owners manuals but not much advertising stuff.

Installed the newly powder coated wheels and center caps with new tires yesterday

Anyone need a clean set of 1984 wheels and center caps?

Truly gorgeous truck now. Looks like its stuck in the late 70s still. Kinda like watching an old movie. I see you have a Club on the steering wheel. If you want another good anti theft trick for the truck, a fuel pump kill switch is very easy to wire. Assuming you have the electric in tank pump, most I have seen do. There is a fuel pump relay on the bottom side of the steering column on the right side. The incoming wire that gets keyed power, direct it to a toggle and then from that to the relay. Put the toggle under the dash some place. If the switch is off, it will only run a few seconds until the carb is empty. Still high up on my to do list.

Yeah, I'm scared to death of this thing getting stolen as we don't have a functional garage(it's filled with my motorcycles). I figured the Club with the car cover is enough deterrent to discourage any petty thieves. I always have my Pathfinder parked right behind it, blocking it in against the house. I've been considering some sort of basic alarm, but I just may try your trick.

Man, that is one of the sweetest pieces of Toyota time machine ever! It really does look like something ready for a period film now.

And I think you've cleared up what color I want my wheels to be - I've been debating between silver, bronze, gloss black or flat black. Yours look like a BBQ-grill type of finish, which I would love but can't afford to powder coat. After seeing how great yours look, I think I'm going to go for gloss black. At least for now.

Take care of that truck! It's a gem...

Beautiful truck. I love that color.
Like you, I would like to keep my truck as close to stock as possible.
I have been looking for stock pictures online too.
I have found a couple. As you can see, the first one has gray wheels and the second one has black rims, so I guess you can go either way. I like your black wheels.

For reference, I felt that black was likely the correct color since my tail light trim was painted black as well.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. :D

Good call. I do prefer the black rims.

My trim pretty much matches the rims too. And I don't think the rims have been repainted.
