Gone is the V6 emblem, in Australia that would be a head turner in it's self as Y engines were the norm here. Anyway back to my "truck". Extradited the sad old bendix hydrovac remote brake booster servo from the engine bay of my 1976 RK101 stout to the dirt floor of my shed, it is sad when something still looks good has no rebuild kit.
Friday after work I got new front tires. The tire place insisted on putting the new tires on the rear and moving the rears to the front. Saturday my youngest son and I took a road trip to a friends farm (Near Trinidad, Co) and the truck handled it almost perfectly. He seems to like to cruise along at around 90 on flat highway and even took the hills without downshifting or slowing down below 75. On the way back, got it up to 100 for a few seconds on a downhill stretch before slowing back down to 90 again. A headwind encountered after that meant that staying at 90 was a chore and that the truck was drinking fuel like an Irishman at an open bar. All in all, it made for a nice, easy road trip.
re-indexed torsions, mono-leafed and 1 inch blocks, all on the daily driver- what the hell was I thinking pics coming as soon as I figure how to post from my phone
This weekend I got 275/35/18's on each corner. And painted my letters, been waiting to do that, on a matching brand set of tires.
I went to Staples to find Uni-Paint Oil-based Paint Marker pens but I could only find the equivalent Sharpie brand. Two white pens for $4 if I remember correctly. It's affordable for sure. Easier to do if the tires are lying flat on the floor since the pen is gravity fed. But I did mine with the wheels mounted. I just get in a comfortable position to hold the marker up right as I filled in my letters. and if the words are on the bottom, I just rolled my truck over lol. I'll grab a better picture of the truck later
sat in the garage and stared at it while plotting the next few moves. also reinstalled the dash on saturday. currently 3rd in line to get my head done. its waiting behind 2 boat motors. shop owner is going to do it himself since no one else is familiar with toyota heads like he is. which makes me even more impatient as i know he has a trick or two up his sleeve.
Dang thats a clean truck! lovin the wheels and the white letters! Today after work I put my a/c belt back on (what do you know, it works better like that lol), removed an annoying rattle that has been getting on my nerves for a while now, put my "new" (to me anyway) heater control thing in the dash, and gave my best shot at cleanin her up. cleaned up pretty good since its never really been all that well taken care of! still gotta get the coverplate for the heater controls. mine was all busted up and couldnt find one in a junkyard. Its about time to drop it!
I am about to go pull it into the shop and try out my other front springs. I wanna see if there is any drop hidden in the front end still. I hope so. lol
Swapped my original coils that I cut back in on one side, 3/4" of LIFT. Change a couple things around and it still sits 1/2" higher than before. Had Mighty Max springs for an unknown drop. Had stock coils cut 3-1/8 turns before that. I guess the MM spring settled after being installed a year or two. Really want to swap to coil overs or bag it or something. Don't like this setup. My springs are barely 9" tall uncompressed lol.
I can bottom it out bouncing the fender around but on most roads it actually rides pretty smooth. Gonna see which spring feels stiffer tomorrow and match the other side to it.
