I have a 78 hilux and want to swap to an electronic speedo. The gauge itself isnt an issue, I can use 92+ truck or supra stuff. I'm curious how it works on the trans side. The point of this is I can't seem to dial in the mech adjustment and thought an electronic type would have some calibration adjustment. Any info would help.

The stock electric doesn't have adjustment built in any more than the mechanical. Trans side just has a magnetic pickup ring and a hall pickup.

What trouble are you having with calibration? It's set by installing different pairs of gears in the trans.

Marlin Crawler sells an adapter, or you could probably just pull the speed sensor out of a 92-94 2WD pickup.

Once he's electronic there are several companies such as Yellr that offer signal converters to dial in the speed correctly.

    I got a adapter from this company for my 1988 2d.Toyota truck ,w/ a manual 5-speed . I use a AtuoMeter speedo.

The part #HE22C, not sure what other Toyota trans this works with ,but call them ,they will know or have what you need!!

Thanks guys. That will give me some places to start. I just want an accurate speedometer that goes to atleast 120. 150 readout would be better. Ive had it to 135 before, so I want a tall readout lol. Problem is I have changed the trans and plan to change the rear end gearing. With a mech, I have to find a high read out or make a new face and calibrate that. I am fully okay with an aftermarket gauge. The '78 gauge cluster just has a big circle speedo, about 4".

    My '94 went from an A43D to a W58 from a SC300... I'm reading 83.3% of actual.

I was thinking about getting a custom face made for the speedometer.
If 83mph is actually 100mph, my 115mph mark would mean it could read up to 140mph and maybe more!

I was unsure how the stock toyota ones worked. Just want a speedo eventually. Tired of mental notes and tach points lol
