ok, i know there is a bunch of info on the net about this, but NOTHING has the answer to this very simple question. why does everyone cut and splice the vaf wires instead of just tracing it down and pulling it from the factory loom? im mean the wires goes to the passenger side firewall to get to the ecm. so there should be MORE than enough wire to reroute them vs cutting and splicing. is it just a lazy thing? seem likes less time to do it right and pull from loom plus dont have to worry about problems at new connections later. i would just tear into myself to see, but cant really be down for too long. i use for my business delivery truck. thanks in advance for any (different) info.

I did open and split my loom. But there would have been like 30" of too much wire. So to make it clean, I just cut it, soldered , and heat shrunk the connections. Much cleaner in my opinion.
dang, that was quick guys! thanks. guess i have a choice to make now. i really wasnt going to do this for a while, but my new intake is rubbing a hole in the spark plug wire and making it miss really bad in rain. where did you guys make all your ground connections? i only see 2 on here now. tiny wire going to fender and the 2nd to the block. seems like there should be more. im going to add one to the frame and firewall or under the cab.
One at back of engine isn't required. Mines off and no issues. I have one from batt to chassis big one from batt to block, an that's it.
I used factory grounding points lol. The loom split at the rear of the engine bay is enough to reach the right headlight.
I split the loom. No worries about opening the insulation on the wiring. There's a little extra wire but not more than a foot or 2, I just doubled it back and tucked it in the new loom tubing. that part looks factory. Ground wherever you like. I think I ran one straight down to the frame, one to an engine mount bolt, and one to a nearby bolt on the fender. I also ran a new + wire from the alternator to the battery, battery to fuse box, and battery to starter.
i split mine as well. had some room to kinda tuck it outta the way or at least to secure (ziptie) to other engine components away from engine heat. and still has about 6in extra slack at the afm. out of the wire loom, pretty much all the wires except the 2 remaining that go to the ign module/coil is all it is (-22re)
