I've got a 74 2wd and was wondering how strong are the rear ends? I plan on doing a motor swap I like the idea of it already having 4:11 gears but was wondering how much abuse it can take.
thats a G code rear end.. i think. whats the axl code in the truck? the G codes (8in) are about as bullet proof as they come up to around 300hp
if you have an 8in, try finding a Supra rear end LSD from teh newer ones, or just get an offroad LSD type diff, someone out there has it i think. or get an axle thats larger and find a larger better LSD with the 4:11
the G code rear end (8in) is the same diff in the 4x4's. so you could get a locker, air locker, electric locker, lsd, spool, mini spool, and on and on and on. there is a ton of options for the 8in diff.
oh F'n wow man you just made my F'n day and are my current hero http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70721 i can get diffs for $20 at the junkyard and make my wheeler lsd front and back
hell ya im serious. ive been looking at buying a new diff from a aftermarket company for more traction. i prefer to get stuff from the yard that does the same thing but cost's a lot less. leaves more money for beer at the end of the day a mkII supra should have the diff you need, or if the gearing isnt right swap your ring n pinion over.
Dood an LSD will do nothing when you lift a tire... Get a locker...or a couple spare diffs we can weld up.
does that mean i can get a LSD diff from a 4x4 model (g series of course) and swap in my 4.11 ratio pinion and ring gear and bung it all together?
i F'n hope the splines are correct, then that would mean you can mix and match across all G code diff's. so the first one to have a mk3 supra diff sitting on their work bench gets to answer the question. or it might be on google somewhere
i have a 87 lsd diff, but i'm not sure i should take it apart. the junkyard i go to has several supras with diffs. i think the diff is like $30.
