Hey guys, obviously, I'm a new member. But I'm not new to Toyota Pickups. I used to own a 1986 regular cab 2wd 22r. I rebuilt the motor when my head gasket blew. No damage was done to the motor, but since I had it apart, I figured I'd rebuild it. I had a custom flowmaster exhaust made up. I also derusted it, sprayed it primer grey, rolled on some bedliner, and got rid of the rear bumper. Then, I got engaged. I made a huge mistake by trading it for a 1993 BMW 325is. Now, after a 3 year toyota hiatus, I am ready to get another 84-88 p/u. My preference would be to get a 22r-te, but I also want 2wd, so I see a swap in my future. I want to make a nice little autocross truck. Drop it down, wider tires, LSD, 5-spd manual, the works. I look forward to the journey and will start a project thread when I do get my truck.
Welcome...I was looking for a Turbo truck when I purchased mine....I realized quickly that theywere very proud of that additional 40 something horsepower...LOL
Yeah, the problem is finding one for the right price that hasn't been to badly molested... I'll dig out some pics of my old truck and post them in a bit. I do mean business, I can't wait to start on this. Well, I plan on putting in forged pistons, a mild cam, swap in a ct26 turbo from an old supra, add a fmic, and manual boost controller. These are such torquey motors that the bottom end can handle a lot more boost than the 6psi coming from the cute little ct20 turbo in them. But, as any project goes, we'll see what happens and where availability takes me.
This was after the motor rebuild. I just sprayed it, then I went back and got rid of the rust holes and sprayed again after this pic.
ol' girl had some potential, too bad you had to get rid of her :/ can't wait to see work on a new ride, when you get it!
So I found a nice partially built 22re short block on the cheap! I still don't have enough for it, but I think I could squeeze it in the next month or so.
Welcome to TM ... Too bad we live so far apart ... I'm lookin' to trade my '85 for what ever tickles my fancy ... I have some other projects goin' on and really don't have time for the Yota anymore ...
