Hey everyone, i do alot of my driving on the highway averaging 80-90 mph. I have a stock 22re, and i'm not comfortable cruising in 5th at 4300 RPM. Also, i notice that after 85 mph i have to push it to go any faster. I'd like to be able to reach that 110 mph mark on my gauge with little to no trouble, and do so without redlining. what are some suggestions?
Change your gearing but im not sure on the options because I think our truck weren't designed to go that fast fo long periods of time.
My W58's 5th gear's .783 ratio combined with my 3.41/.42's and 265/35/18's on my truck leaves me at 2000RPM's exactly at 60mph. I believe at 70mph I'm sitting at 2500RPM's and at 80mph, 3000RPM's. This is with a tire that's very close to stock tire height.
get a car that can handle that speed or, drive slower... i cant imagine how crappy the handling would be in our trucks at anything over 90. they are bricks with wheels.
A steady highway drive at 90 to 100mph .wasnt what Toyota had in mind for these trucks I agree with Robert get a car or cut back on the speed..
Yeah, I'd recommend slowing down. What's the maximun speed limit in your area anyway? Are we building a drug running truck?
I gotta ask, what transmission, rear end, and tire size are you even running? 60mph is comfortable, 65mph isn't bad, 70mph isn't too bad either... any higher and it's completely normal for you to feel like you're pushing it to get somewhere.
i push mine till i can go no more lol 87 yota drive - YouTube handles good im bone stock just new top end rebuilt/cleaned carb i woulds say full tune up spark plugs wire cap
I got no prob hitting these speeds... 4spd small tires im pullin high rpm at 90mph and often do but freeway rolling for a extended period of time in a very small truck buy today's standards ..just be safe man these trucks stand no chance in a collision with a modern car or truck
I havn't actually done anything to my truck performance wise. everything is stock. however, recently i swapped out my stock wheels for the 2nd gen Scion Tc wheels and wrapped em in Achilles 2233's 225/40 zr18 and the only difference i notice is i'm able to handle sharp corners even better than before, and even though they are low profile, its a more comfortable ride! 85-90 mph is usually the flow of traffic. i'm always driving on I-10 from the 215 interchange in san bernardino to the 15 in ontario. she's not giving me any troubles at all, in fact she seems to like the 85-90 range. EVEN WITH the slightly broken timing chain guide. (i'm saving for the double row upgrade) I've just been getting to know my truck i guess you can say. Now that i'm able to communicate with her, i think she can go a bit faster. I know shes not built to be racing around town and what not, but occasionally, id like to take her around the track and put down some nice lap times.
as far as handleing i recomend front and rear 1 ton swaybars hard to come by but when u see them get em and i recomend getting a kn n air filter too
Im in the junkyards alot, if i see the sway bars i'll grab em. Or if i find em for a decent price i'll take the advice! I've got the K&N. also forgot to mention before...One other Mod i've done...my fan clutch went bad, and instead of replacing it, i scrapped it and wired up an electric fan.
i had a 32/36-20r/w58/3.42 and it would cruize 100 eazy with a 225/65/15 tire ,my new daily is a stock 20r/w58[sameone]/4.10 and stock tires it will rap the speedo back around to the 20mph mark but it also reads 70 at 60mph it still cruizes smooth at about 85 on the speedo which i believe is 75ish
4300RPM's in 5th, at 80-90, with 25" tall tires? What transmission and rear end do you have in that thing?
I dont know much at all about wheels. i have 225/40ZR18 92W where do you find 25" tall? 225? seriously, not sarcasm, i really don't know. I just measured though and yes they're 25" tall...as far as the tranny, I've only had the truck since January, and havn't swapped anything so im assuming whatever came standard in 94. I feel safe in saying that because when i changed the shocks they were the original Tokicko's from japan. they were even date stamped lol. I'll look here shortly at what trans i have.
Oh...i might want to add that today...i was able to tow our 04 trail blazer home with no hesitation at all. it was as if i wasn't towing anything at all. so...Tq is GOOD! lol
as long you do tow it safely. I think the previous owner of your truck swapped the transmission OR the rear end. Hmmm, and you have a tachometer that shows you your rpm's too? (i just googled a tire size calculator)
